Sarcastrophe
Slipknot Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Wallow in the winter of it
Discover what you truly covet
Underneath and far above it
You slither in all kinds of shit
How could you forget about it?
Did you think you could minimize?
This is the age of consent
You'll get a day in the sun before I kill your fucking lights
Burn up in your atmosphere
Burn up in your utmost fear
Desecrate your temples
Only hell and hate remain
Don't look for crows to scatter
Prepare for judgment day

We are kill gods
The kings are falling down
Can I find a way to get there?
Bury your head in the ground
Will you falsify for your fair share?
When it's done, it's done
Plus negative one
It's everybody's guess but the apathy won
Will you come testify in the court of myopic opinion
Or will you settle for oblivion?

We are kill gods

We, we make the world worth saving
Are, are you prepared to believe?
Kill, kill everything that kills you
Gods, live long and die for me

Rape crutch and sick in the middle of an evidence bag that'll never obey
All these years spent hiding all the bodies
I can never be sure but I remember the graves!

We are kill gods
We, we make the world worth saving
Are, are you prepared to believe?
Kill, kill everything that kills you
Gods live long and die for me

Live long and die for me
Live long and die for me

Overall Meaning

"Sarcastrophe" is a song by Slipknot from their fifth studio album, ".5: The Gray Chapter." The lyrics describe the pain and suffering of an individual who has been banished to a cold, lonely place, where they are forced to confront their deep-seated desires and fears. The singer describes this place as a "winter," a time of barrenness and desolation.

The second stanza speaks to the idea of judgment and the need to take responsibility for one's actions. The singer claims the role of a "kill god" who will bring justice to the world by punishing those who have done wrong. They urge the listener to prepare for the coming of judgment day, suggesting that it will be a time of great reckoning.

The third and final stanza takes a darker turn, describing a scene of violence and death. The singer talks of burying bodies and hiding evidence, suggesting that they have committed terrible crimes. They declare that they are the ones who will ultimately determine who lives or dies, making them gods in their own right.

Overall, "Sarcastrophe" is a deeply introspective song that explores themes of pain, judgment, and power. It is a powerful reminder of the consequences of our actions and the importance of taking responsibility for them.

Slipknot is honestly a legendary metal band, they continue to deliver over so many years, have killer shows, and generally have the same intense energy they've had since the start.

Simon N Most Heavy Metal bands are just tryin’ their hardest to go the extreme, they’ve forgotten that they actually have to ‘write a song’. And that’s what separates the wheat from the chaff. ‘Cuz it doesn’t take much to be a one-trick pony or to become an accidental parody. Slipknot know how to balance melody with abrasive aggression in a way that complements the content of the lyricism contained within the song. You do not have to be at a thousand decibels and nine-hundred BPM throughout your entire album. In fact, it kind of rates itself redundant. It no longer means anything. You have to know when to go there, then the impact will be greater.
