Come Down
Slovo feat. Kirsty Hawkshaw Lyrics

Come Down
It's raining and it's morning
My tinnitus is singing
And my beat body's yawning

Night Bus
Is nowhere to be seen
And a grinning man strolls up wearing his street cleaning green

he says

Sister
My name is Malcolm
I came from a place near Inverness to seek my fortune and some wisdom
I found then once over a moonlit sea
And I found them again in the eyes of people like me

I believe in me
I believe in you
Look at all of us
Think of all that we could do

Fares Please
Steamed up windows on the bus
A man with a can takes years of anger out on all of us

See Him
Says a woman next to me
He's hurting in his heart so much he's blind to all that I can see

I believe in me
I believe in you
Look at all of us
Think of all that we could do

Front door, now the self-righteous birds decide to sing
Hazy head thumping neighbours bumping morning traffic din
Claim me, you who know me best
Save me from the same tomorrow
Put the brakes on this room
Make the birds sing in tune

With my dreams that I am truly blessed…
I am truly blessed.

Overall Meaning

The song Come Down by Slovo feat. Kirsty Hawkshaw is a lyrical masterpiece that takes the listener on an emotional journey through the lyrics. The song starts with a description of a rainy morning, and the singer's tinnitus is kicking in, and her body is yawning, suggesting that she's not entirely awake yet. The next few lines describe a man approaching the singer, grinning and wearing his street cleaning green, introducing himself as Malcolm. Malcolm then tells the singer about his journey to seek his fortune and some wisdom, which he found in the eyes of people like him. The belief in oneself and in others, and the power of collective action is a theme that runs throughout the song.

The next set of lyrics describe a scene on a night bus, where the windows have steamed up, and a man is taking out his anger on everyone else with a can. A woman sitting next to the singer notes how the man is in so much pain that he can't see what's around him. The belief in oneself and others is brought up again, with the idea that if we all come together, we can accomplish great things.

The final set of lyrics bring up the self-righteous birds singing outside, the hazy morning, and the thumping neighbors. The singer reaches out, asking those who know her best to claim and save her from the same tomorrow. The singer asks for the brakes to be put on the room, to make the birds sing in tune with her dreams, all expressing that she is truly blessed.

Overall, the lyrics of Come Down by Slovo feat. Kirsty Hawkshaw are a powerful reminder of the importance of belief in oneself and belief in others. The lyrics suggest that if we all come together and work towards a common goal, we can make great things happen.
