Apples And Pairs
Slow Club Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Stain my shirt, I don?t mind
Pylons buzz right outside
But all I hear is you
Remember when it rained all day
No playtime, locked away
Dancing to the beat of rain
Cause we are a pair of apples
That we?d share after the stretch
But for fifteen minutes or so
We were there
Nervous walks in a park
I never knew could get so dark
I?m running out of things to say
Will you please start talking?
About yourself or your family
Any friends? I?ve got one, two, three
But they are all imaginary
Come and stroke the air
We are a pair of apples
That we?d share after the stretch
But for fifteen minutes or so
We were there
Brand new sheets, let?s break them in
Underneath our feathered skin
I feel your warmth, you let me in
Shall we stop? Let?s stop.
I look at you, you look away
It?s the beginning of the end today
Three more weeks and we could say
We mirrored the world
Cause we are a pair of apples
That we?d share after the stretch
But for fifteen minutes or so
We were there
In Slow Club's song Apples And Pairs, the lyrics describe a fleeting moment of intimacy between two people. The opening line encourages the listener to open up and pay attention, suggesting that the song is about something significant. The line "Stain my shirt, I don't mind" suggests that the moment being described is not perfect or polished, but rather messy and real. The next line, "Pylons buzz right outside, but all I hear is you," implies a sense of being lost in the moment and blocking out external distractions.
The second verse uses vivid imagery to describe a memory of dancing in the rain as a child. The line "Will it ever stop?" suggests a longing for the moment to last forever. The following verse is a conversation between two people, with one person struggling to keep the conversation going. The line "Come and stroke the air" is a particularly interesting use of language, suggesting a desire for some kind of physical touch or intimacy.
The final verse is the most intimate, describing a moment of physical closeness between two people lying in bed. The line "Three more weeks and we could say we mirrored the world" is a poignant observation on the transient nature of relationships.
Overall, the lyrics of Apples And Pairs paint a picture of a fleeting moment of intimacy shared between two people. The use of vivid imagery and poetic language creates a sense of nostalgia for a moment that has passed.
