Pirates
Slow Club Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I sent off for the economy pack,
They sent the super deluxe pack.
But no i'm not complaining,
No, no 'cos it's not raining
Today.

Friday morning I've got so much to do.
I see a man about a thing,
But its not for me, it's all for you.
And i swear i didn't see the danger ship.
Where sea meets the sky,
And the sky meets the sea.

But you take me home,
And we missed my road,
So we'll have to take the long way round.
And you shot me in the back,
When i was walking away.
Girl, y'know that's not fair play.

So i left my instructions on the side,
And this is what they say:

I come in six, easy to assemble,
Pieces. No glue needed 'cos i've got some self adhesive
On my head and my hands and feet.
You wanna cut across the dotted line,
And we're complete.

La, la, la, la, la, low.
La, la, la, la, la, low.
La, la, la, la, la, low.
Oh, oh, oh, oh.
Oh, oh, oh, oh.

Blasted boats were used to sail away.
To mashed potato island where the trees are made of broccoli.
And i swear i didn't see the danger ship,
Where the sea meets the sky,
And the sky meets the sea.

But the pirates came and made me walk their plank,
They tied cannonballs to my feet to made sure that i'd sank.
But the sharks were being friendly that day,
They chewed my hat,
Chewed my jeans,
And then they chewed my chain.
So i could get away.

And say:

I come in six, easy to assemble,
Pieces. No glue needed 'cos i've got some self adhesive
On my head and my hands and feet. (All around my hands and feet.)
You wanna cut across the dotted line.
You wanna cut across the dotted line.
You wanna cut across the dotted line.
You wanna cut across the dotted line.
You wanna cut across the dotted line.

And we're complete.
And we're complete.

And we're comple-
Yeah, yeah.

Overall Meaning

The song "Pirates" by Slow Club is a story about a person who receives a package that is not what they expected. It starts with the singer receiving an economy pack but ends up with a super-deluxe one. However, they are not complaining because it's not raining. They then describe their plans for the day, including seeing a man about something for someone else. They miss a dangerous ship on their way back home, but the person they're with shoots them in the back as they walk away. The singer leaves some self-assembling instructions for someone to follow and says that they come in six easy to assemble pieces. They also describe an adventure they had where pirates tied cannonballs to their feet and made them walk the plank, but they managed to escape.
