Small Brown Bike is a band from Marshall, Michigan that existed between 1996 and 2004 and reunited in 2009. The trademark of this four-piece is "double vocals" backed by melodies. Their sound is often identified as being similar to other post-hardcore bands such as Avail and Hot Water Music. The band name is derived from their working experience as bike mechanics.
Their last show was in 2004 at the Fireside Bowl in Chicago, after already agreeing to split up. Former members Mike Reed and Dan Jaquint later created the band LaSalle, with Reed's wife playing bass guitar.
Jeff, Mike and Ben started a new band with Nathan Ellis from The Casket Lottery called Able Baker Fox.
In 2009 the band got back together again and played a couple of reunion shows and released a 7inch with new songs. A new full length record "Fell & Found" was released in spring 2011 via No Idea Records.

Sleeping Weather
Small Brown Bike Lyrics

And your computer screen lit the room just right.
The last thing from your mouth sheds light.
(Goodnight) You are the one who calls my arms.
Wave from home and sound alarms.
The want is angled from afar.
And I don't want to leave, especially with this breeze.
(But my ambition teases me) This truth be known.
My song to say forget where I've gone wrong.
Times changed. I've changed.
Now I feel like my life has changed.
I lie awake to this long night.
To separate me from my mind until the morning light just shines.
Your words sound right.
Cast these images to find.
(I can't sleep another night)
The song "Sleeping Weather" by Small Brown Bike seemingly depicts a scene where the singer is falling asleep while lying next to somebody with whom they share an intimate relationship. The first stanza reflects the sensory experience of their surroundings, where they are drifting off to the gentle breeze that passes through the open window while the room is dimly lit by the computer screen. The second stanza highlights a sense of longing and expresses a desire to not part from the company of the person they are with, but their ambitions lead them elsewhere. It is ironic that the idea of ambition taunts them, which is preventing them from fully enjoying the present moment.
The following stanza includes a line where the singer claims to shout out the truth in this song, where the truth seems to be a message of forgiveness for the wrongs in the past. The next line, "Times changed. I've changed," verifies that the past is indeed behind them, and they have moved on. With each passing night, the singer lies awake, looking for a way to distance themselves from their thoughts, and the only comfort they find is in the words spoken by the person lying next to them. The line, "cast these images to find," suggests that the singer is attempting to restructure their thoughts and redirect their focus on positive ideas.
