Smalltown Poets achieved recognition with their eponymous first album, released on Ardent Records in 1997. This release earned the band the first of its two Grammy nominations (Best Gospel Rock Album) and numerous Dove Award nominations. Despite line-up changes, the band stayed active for more than ten years, releasing three albums on Ardent Records and one on BEC Recordings.
Smalltown Poets went on hiatus several months after their fourth studio album called It's Later Than It's Ever Been," but regrouped in the fall of 2010 to begin production on a Christmas album due out in 2011 (co-produced and mixed by former Smalltown Poets drummer Matt Goldman). In anticipation of that full-length release, the band released a Christmas single in December 2010 titled "In the Bleak Midwinter."
The full-length project, Smalltown Poets Christmas, was released on Nov. 1st, 2011, on the band's own Friendly City Records label and is available on iTunes, Amazon.com, CDBaby.com, and other online media outlets.
Glória
Smalltown Poets Lyrics

Living Gloria
And the light so shines that everyone will see
Glory to God
I want to make what I've been feeling so
I've been living with
Specific boundary lines and given warning signs
Singing Gloria
Living Gloria
And the light so shines that everyone will see
I'm bringing Gloria
Giving Gloria
To the father may the greater glory be
And once again, I start the day
Part of the mystery, of overcoming sin
While feeling less than meek and gentle
Knowing what's new testamental
Then they'll see me
Singing Gloria
Living Gloria
And the light so shines that everyone will see
I'm bringing Gloria
Giving Gloria
To the father may the greater glory be
Knowing this that my redeemer finds me free
The best that I can do is live what I believe
Use my gifts and all my opportunities
To let my words and deeds agree
Singing Gloria
Living Gloria
And the light so shines that everyone will see
I'm bringing Gloria
Giving Gloria
To the father, I'll live
To the father, I'll bring
Sing Gloria
The song "Gloria" by Smalltown Poets is a celebration of living for the glory of God. The chorus repeats "Singing Gloria, Living Gloria, And the light so shines that everyone will see" as an affirmation of the impact that a life lived for God can have on others. The verses reveal the struggles that come with trying to live a life that is pleasing to God. The singer acknowledges that they have been living within boundaries and warned of potential temptation, but ultimately it is up to them to be the one to make the necessary changes to fully reflect God's glory. They recognize that it is a process of overcoming sin and trying to live in a way that reflects the new, testamental way of life. The singer's commitment to living for God is clear, as they express a desire to use their gifts and opportunities to let their words and deeds agree with their faith.
