Smalltown Poets achieved recognition with their eponymous first album, released on Ardent Records in 1997. This release earned the band the first of its two Grammy nominations (Best Gospel Rock Album) and numerous Dove Award nominations. Despite line-up changes, the band stayed active for more than ten years, releasing three albums on Ardent Records and one on BEC Recordings.
Smalltown Poets went on hiatus several months after their fourth studio album called It's Later Than It's Ever Been," but regrouped in the fall of 2010 to begin production on a Christmas album due out in 2011 (co-produced and mixed by former Smalltown Poets drummer Matt Goldman). In anticipation of that full-length release, the band released a Christmas single in December 2010 titled "In the Bleak Midwinter."
The full-length project, Smalltown Poets Christmas, was released on Nov. 1st, 2011, on the band's own Friendly City Records label and is available on iTunes, Amazon.com, CDBaby.com, and other online media outlets.
Inside The Bubble

We float on unseen fuel
Each one sails, a gossamer sphere
Our course unwinds like thread from a spool
What's it like inside the bubble?
Say the souls who'd like to try
Cut your tether, come and join me
Look at me with a childlike eye
And understand who's bound
Why are those who are on the ground
Afraid of falling down?
What's it like inside the bubble?
Say the souls who'd like to try
Cut your tether, come and join me
We can swim across the sky
Love has killed our fear
Yes and when we're done we'll disappear
Draws you out inside the ring
Comes our holy breath of truth
I'm setting free and sealing you
In an eternal youth
What's it like inside the bubble?
Say the souls who'd like to try
Comes together, come and join me
We can swim across the sky
Love has killed our fear
Yes and when we're done we'll disappear
Love has killed our fear
Yes and when we're done we'll disappear
The song "Inside the Bubble" by Smalltown Poets is a tribute to the power of love and freedom. The lyrics suggest that we can all rise above the mundane world by cutting the tether that keeps us grounded and joining together to soar among the clouds. Flying high with the crowd at night, we float on unseen fuel, our course unwinding like thread from a spool. The song's narrator invites the listener to come along on this journey of escape, to see the world through a child's eyes and understand who is truly bound.
The song's repeated refrain, "What's it like inside the bubble?" speaks to the idea that those who are "on the ground" are trapped in a self-imposed prison of their own making. The bubble represents the limits we place on ourselves, the fears and anxieties that hold us back from experiencing the world in all its glory. The message of the song is that love has the power to break down these barriers, to render our fears impotent, and to allow us to soar to new heights. The song concludes with the assertion that love has killed our fear and that when we're done, we'll disappear, leaving behind the chains that once held us.
