In these lyrics, Smitten reflects on a past relationship that was full of ups and downs – the highs of feeling and learning new things, and the lows of suffering and ignoring the reality that things have come to an end. The singer acknowledges that while it's impossible to live solely in the past, it's also difficult to move forward and start something new. With this person, they learned to express their pain and their dreams, but also that love can sometimes be just a dream. It's evident that the singer still holds some attachment to this past love, but is aware that dwelling on it won't bring anything positive, and only leads to a sense of loss.
Overall, this song explores the complex emotions that come with the end of a relationship, acknowledging the positive and negative aspects of learning and growing with someone else, but also the challenges of accepting that it's time to move on. The lyrics convey a sense of bittersweet nostalgia, filled with both fond memories and sadness for what's been lost.
