Dark Walk
Smoke City Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I hope you don't mind
But I see you as my sanctuary
I like the way that you are my sanctuary
I hope you don't mind
But I see you as my sanctuary
I like the way that you sleep on your shoes

It's the dark walk

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Smoke City's song "Dark Walk" are about finding sanctuary, safety, and comfort in a person. The singer expresses their hope that the other person doesn't mind being their sanctuary. The term "sanctuary" usually refers to a place of safety and protection, and the lyrics suggest that the other person has become that for the singer. The repeated phrase "I hope you don't mind" might indicate that the singer worries about being too reliant on the other person for safety, and is seeking reassurance that their reliance is not a burden.

The singer also expresses admiration for the other person's habits and character, highlighting the fact that they like the way the other person sleeps on their shoes. This puts a positive spin on a potentially negative habit, indicating that the singer finds comfort and familiarity in even the smallest details of the other person's life. Overall, the lyrics create an image of two people finding solace and safety in each other in a dark and uncertain world, emphasizing the importance of human connection and intimacy.

Delicious. The guitar, the beat, the electro sounds, the eyes, everything.

I'm starting to get into this whole Trip Hop thingy. Right up my alley. Thanks for sharing this.

This is drum n bass not trip hop. This is a much higher bpm than trip hop, don't believe everything you read. Yes this artist typically makes trip hop, but there is a blatant audible difference in genre. I'm so so sick of how music stupid everyone is. Like what just listen and think...

Search for Portishead live at Roseland NYC! So freakin' good. Hooverphonic's A New Stereophonic Sound Spectacular is a great album. And Emiliana Torrini's Love in the Time of Science has some memorable tracks, "Fingertips" and "Telephathy" in particular still remain on all my trip hop playlists.

Were you at Lou Rhodes live performance at the Scala in London? This girl was kind enough to recommend that album! I never got to thank her! "Dead Things" on that album is utterly stunning.

Oh. Oh well! :D Yes that is a very unique song. The guitar has an insane amount of compression! ;) It tends to be the tracks that are really long that sound sonorous & slick! The Sexiest track I've heard is probably "Humming" by Portishead.. the one with the minute n a half "The Day the Earth Stood Still" intro! Ha ha! Awesome!

Sorry, no, I wasn't there! I really like that song too--the entire album, really. Her song "Gun" from Me and Armini is also a fave. So sleek, sexy & dark.
