The Queen is Gone
Smoulder Lyrics

thy sword is by his side,
Both together fought in war,
his life was written in blood.
I take his place in the throne
because the king is gone.
He died into the battle
Within the Asgard realm
guided by the valkries' fly.
A place is waiting for him,
Odin proclaims his name.
Thy blood he bled to fight
Thy crown and ring are mine.
His body burns in flames,
thy remains rest oversea.
The horns give their last farewell
Burning arrows cross the sky.
His journey has begun,
thy sword is by his side,
Both together fought in war,
his life was written in blood.
I take his place in the throne
because the king is gone.
The lyrics to Smoulder's song "The Queen is Gone" tell the story of a fallen warrior who has died in battle. The opening lines imply that the singer's journey has just begun, and he is now equipped with a sword by his side, symbolizing his readiness for war. It is revealed that he and the king fought side by side, their lives intertwined in the bloodshed of war. But now, with the king gone, the singer takes his place on the throne.
The second verse suggests that the fallen warrior, who died in battle, has ascended to the realm of Asgard, ruled by the gods. Guided by the valkyries, divine creatures who choose slain warriors for the afterlife, he is welcomed by Odin, the chief god of Norse mythology. Here, a place is waiting for him, and Odin proclaims his name, suggesting that he is recognized and honored for his valor in battle.
The lyrics continue to emphasize the sacrifice the fallen warrior made, shedding his blood to fight and protect his crown and ring, which are now inherited by the singer. In death, his body burns in flames, a traditional funeral ritual, and his remains rest overseas. The horns, a common symbol associated with Norse mythology, give a final farewell as burning arrows cross the sky, representing a salute or tribute to the fallen warrior.
Overall, "The Queen is Gone" mourns the loss of a brave warrior and explores themes of succession, honor, and the journey to the afterlife.

I'm not into doom/stoner/sludge metal but it could be more interesting if the drums were akin to death or thrash metal. You know, a harsher undertone constantly kicking. Try it out.
