SPIN SPIN SUGAR

I'm everyone - I feel used,
I'm everyone - I need you,
I'm everyone - hang your label on me,
I'm everyone - Paint it black and white and easy,
I'm everyone - Sticks in me,
I'm everyone - Sticks with me,
I want perfection - I'm real need,
I've seen attention - See through me,
Call on me - Spin spin sugar
Crawl on me - Spin spin sugar

Stinks on me - Spin spin sugar
Twists for me - Spin spin sugar

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Spin Spin Sugar by Sneaker Pimps suggest that the singer feels objectified and used in a way that can apply to everyone. He or she wants to be the ideal version of themselves, to be perfect, but feels like they're constantly being stripped of their individuality and reduced to a label or mere object. Despite this, they admit their need for attention, to be seen and heard, to have an impact on those around them. In the end, they invite others to engage with them, to spin spin sugar, crawl on them, stink on them, and twist for them, seemingly asking for help breaking free from the cycles of superficiality they feel trapped in.

These lyrics are likely influenced by the dance culture in which Sneaker Pimps emerged, where individuals can feel both united and objectified, where a sense of community is balanced with a hunger for individual attention. The repetition of "I'm everyone" could be seen as a nod to the idea of rave culture as a form of collective identity, with each participant contributing to a larger whole. At the same time, however, the verses suggest that this sense of unity can also come at a cost, with individuals feeling like they're losing themselves in the mix.

Overall, the song can be seen as a reflection on the complicated nature of communal experiences, how they both lift us up and weigh us down.

God I miss the 90's sometimes. There was something dark and industrial in the sound that I love.

Sannah

that dark industrial was even better in the 80s !!

RageTV

That sound came from the late 80s industrial/synth/goth era... and that's a sound I miss so much

Dubstructor

Check what the one guy from Sneaker Pimps has been doing as IAMX. I'd say it's even darker.

Sawrattan

Today's "90s revival" focuses too much on the light-hearted Ibiza stuff and not enough on the quirkier side of the 90s

I just love the dark, dirty yet sexy vibe of this song. The 90's were so cool.

I was a teen in the 80s, but still a young man in the 90s. Like the music of both decades, but the music in the 90s was probably a bit better, and definitely has a different vibe.

Just discovered trip hop about 8 months ago and am obsessed. Can't get 6 underground and this song out of my head.

She is absolutely drop-dead gorgeous, the eye's, the lips, the movement, dam... I'm borderline obsessed!!!. BIIIIG mistake for this band to drop her, she was definately an integral part of the unique sound the Sneaker Pimps -once- posessed.

Keli Ali's solo album 'Rocking Horse' is an absolute masterpiece as is this stuff she did with the Sneaker Pimps... this song and Six Underground are modern pop masterpieces without a doubt and her voice is a major factor in that - Chris was genious to choose her to sing it. He's also a genius for writing such original and incredible music.
