The album version is typical of the Sneaker Pimps in both style and format; there is a driving bass line produced by a synthesizer keyboard which is accompanied by a second synthesizer loop playing above it. Kelli Dayton provides the vocals.

"Spin Spin Sugar" was further popularized with the release of a speed garage remix by Armand van Helden, which is sometimes credited with breaking speed garage into the mainstream for the first time. Redbull.com included the remix in their "Honorable mentions" list of "underground UK garage classics that still sound fresh today".

British magazine Music Week gave the song three out of five, writing, "A faster, guitar and percussion-cluttered radio mix lacks the brooding menace of the album version, but club mixes by Van Helden and Farley & Heller, plus a new track 'Walk the Rain', will lift its chances." The Times newspaper described it as a "twitchy, dance-rock crossover song from much-fancied indie kids with attitude."

Keli Ali's solo album 'Rocking Horse' is an absolute masterpiece as is this stuff she did with the Sneaker Pimps... this song and Six Underground are modern pop masterpieces without a doubt and her voice is a major factor in that - Chris was genious to choose her to sing it. He's also a genius for writing such original and incredible music.

I remember, a friend of mine lost his voice, so couldn't sing, the night the band he was in, The X-Greats, was supposed to open for The Sneaker Pimps, in San Antonio, TX, so I stood in, to sing. Everybody was signing body parts, that night. I do recall Kelli Ali's smile, beneath large black sunglasses, brightening up the night, as I asked her to sign my bum. The moment was fleeting, but I got a giggle out of her. Thank you, to The Sneaker Pimps, you put on a great show!

Spin Spin Sugar is still one of my favourite songs ever.
True story - I saw Sneaker Pimps live at Camden underground in 1996-technical issues meant they didn't go on stage until 9.30ish so by that point I had made my way upfront and stood right up front next to the speakers so I could be as close as possible to Kelli, who I was obsessed with. Really great concert. So anyway I rush to the tube after the gig to catch my train from Waterloo and I'm sitting on the tube watching people talk and I suddenly realised that I had gone completely deaf( I am permanently deaf in my right ear anyway, I should add) and couldn't hear a thing. I got home eventually and went to bed. next day I woke up with a hideous ringing noise in my ears and an absolutely pounding migraine. Neither the ringing or the migraines cleared up for 2 weeks after that gig and I was pretty much told by my doctor to not go to a gig again for risk of permanent damage. But, I would 100 see them again. the deafness and migraines were worth every second of that gig.

yes chris corner is the real genius behind all this...he wrote it. i love kelli ali but she just sang trax. this IS the quintessential album for ravers/clubkids coming down from E in the height of those days. Sneaker pimps are just as good if no better without her though. Never thought i'd say that. Its a tough call. Its all good. I miss those days too. IAMX rocks too!

Becoming X was their best album because she was the main singer. After that the Sneaker Pimps became very bland in my opinion. I love listening to her voice. Very sexy and unique.
