LOST YOU

Then I woke up to a stranger
After all this time I thought that I knew
You and I was no debating
Now it's up for conversation
Tell me was it all a lie? I'm confused (mmm)
But then you say what I wanna hear
Every time I say that I'm through
And even though I know it ain't right
Said I wasn't gon' spend the night
Here I am right back with you
Although I lost you
I, I'll always want you
'Cause you take me high (high)
See I'll always want you
But I know I've lost you (ah)
Say it, right
Ah, ah-ah-ah
I won't hold the past against you
When you hold me, I forget to
I can never draw the line with you, no
Wish I knew what you were thinking
But that probably wouldn't change shit
So deep in, I'm still falling for you
But then you say what I wanna hear
'Cause you know it's gon' get me here
Every time I say that I'm through
And even though I know it ain't right
Said I wasn't gon' spend the night
Here I am right back with you
Although I lost you
I, I'll always want you (I'll always want you)
'Cause you take me high (high)
See I'll always want you
But I know I've lost you
Ah-da-da-da-da (yeah)
Ah-ah-ah
The song "Lost You" by Snoh Aalegra explores the confusion and conflicting emotions that come with a failing relationship. The opening lines reveal the singer's shock and disappointment as she wakes up next to a person she thought she knew, but now feels like a stranger. Aalegra questions the authenticity of the love she had built with this person and wonders if it was all a lie. Despite this, the chorus suggests that she still wants this person, even though she knows she has lost them. The conflict of these opposing desires is further revealed in the lines "And even though I know it ain't right/Said I wasn't gon' spend the night/Here I am right back with you."
The second verse portrays a sense of hopelessness as Aalegra admits that she cannot resist the person, even though she wishes she knew what they were thinking. She also acknowledges that she cannot draw a line with them, indicating that their relationship is unstable and characterized by blurred boundaries. The bridge is a repetition of the chorus with the line "I won't hold the past against you/When you hold me, I forget to." This suggests that Aalegra is willing to overlook past hurt and pain for the possibility of love and intimacy in the moment.
