Cordozar Calvin Broadus Jr. (born October 20, 1971 in Long Beach, California, United States), better known by his stage name Snoop Dogg, is a Grammy award nominated rapper, producer and actor. Snoop is best known as a famous MC in the West Coast hip hop scene, and for being one of producer Dr. Dre's most notable protégés. He made his rap debut in 1992 on Dre's debut album The Chronic, and then released his debut album, Doggystyle, to much critical and public acclaim. His mother nicknamed him "Snoopy" as a child, and he took the stage name Snoop Doggy Dogg when he began recording. He changed his name to Snoop Dogg in 1996 when he left his original record label, Death Row Records, and signed with No Limit Records.
He has been affiliated with the Crips, a U.S. street gang. Several of his cousins, including RBX, Nate Dogg, Daz Dillinger, and Warren G are also hip hop artists and often collaborate with Snoop. In 2000, Snoop (as "Michael J. Corleone") directed Snoop Dogg's Doggystyle, a pornographic film produced by Hustler. This film, combining hip-hop with X-rated material, was a huge success and won "Top Selling Release of the Year" at the 2002 AVN Awards. Driven by this success, Snoop directed Snoop Dogg's Hustlaz: Diary of a Pimp in 2002 (this time using the nickname "Snoop Scorsese").
As a rapper, he is perhaps best known for his “lazy drawl” — a slurred, distinctively calm, laid-back, and rhythmically-complex lyrical delivery. His lyrics have often been criticized for their glorification of misogyny, violence and gangsterism; however, he is often credited for accurately portraying street slang and attitudes.
No Guns Allowed
Snoop Lion Lyrics

If we all were rich, we'd spend more time
With our daughters and sons, they're losing their minds
We all feel hurt, here's mine, hear me now
Cause, no guns are allowed, in here tonight
We're gonna have a free-for-all, no fights
I wanna get lost in the crowd, in here tonight
Let the music play, me don't want no more gunplay
When the bodies hit the ground, there's nothing left to say, ay, ay
Me don't want to see no more innocent blood shed
Me don't want to see no more youth dead
Come hear me now
No guns are allowed, in here tonight
We're gonna have a free-for-all, no fights
I wanna get lost in the crowd, in here tonight
I need to hear my thoughts, turn the music up loud
Yeah, yeah, yeah, news from back home
This when it hurts to be gone
Two more young names to be carved out of stone
One summer day that went horribly wrong
Got my dawg on the phone
Cryin' and sayin' to leave him alone, but I'm not leavin' his side
I know that somebody died, somebody's child
Some people ducked down and some people hide
Some people just cannot react in time
Bullets do not choose a victim
It is the shooter that picks 'em
They just can't wait to get you in the system
The district attorney could use a conviction
Told you no guns and then you didn't listen
Life is so heavy with that on your soul
Dedicate this to Shyanne and Josh
And pour sumthin' out for the lives that they stole

No guns are allowed, in here tonight
We're gonna have a free-for-all, no fights
I wanna get lost in the crowd, in here tonight
I need to hear my thoughts, turn the music up loud
Money makes a man and that's a crime
Money makes a man and that's a crime
I wanna get lost in the crowd, in here tonight
The lyrics of Snoop Lion's "No Guns Allowed" are a powerful plea for an end to gun violence. The opening lines suggest that the pursuit of money is the root of the problem, leading to a society where violence and the use of guns are accepted. The song suggests that if people were not so focused on money, they would spend more time with their families and be more loving and peaceful.
The chorus of the song repeats the phrase "No guns are allowed, in here tonight," reinforcing the idea that guns have no place in our society or in the music venue where the song is being performed. The song also acknowledges the devastating impact that gun violence has on families and communities. It references specific instances of violence, such as the death of a young person, and the pain and grief that survivors experience.
The song's message is clear: we must work to end gun violence, and the first step is to stop accepting it as a normal part of our society. The song suggests that we must turn up the music and drown out the sound of gunshots, and that we must come together as a community to demand an end to gun violence.

Receiving news of the tragic loss of young lives from my hometown is heartbreaking. In moments of crisis, some people have the ability to react and others don't. The responsibility for choosing victims lies solely on the shooters, who are too eager to cause harm, and the legal system needs to hold them accountable.

We have been warning against the use of guns, but some refuse to listen. The weight of such violence is unbearable. I dedicate this to Shyanne and Josh, who lost their lives senselessly. Let's raise a glass in honor of their memory.

Am I the only one who feel's like Drake's line "Bullets do not choose a victim, it is the shooter that picks them" is the deepest part of this whole song?
