Cordozar Calvin Broadus Jr. (born October 20, 1971 in Long Beach, California, United States), better known by his stage name Snoop Dogg, is a Grammy award nominated rapper, producer and actor. Snoop is best known as a famous MC in the West Coast hip hop scene, and for being one of producer Dr. Dre's most notable protégés. He made his rap debut in 1992 on Dre's debut album The Chronic, and then released his debut album, Doggystyle, to much critical and public acclaim. His mother nicknamed him "Snoopy" as a child, and he took the stage name Snoop Doggy Dogg when he began recording. He changed his name to Snoop Dogg in 1996 when he left his original record label, Death Row Records, and signed with No Limit Records.
He has been affiliated with the Crips, a U.S. street gang. Several of his cousins, including RBX, Nate Dogg, Daz Dillinger, and Warren G are also hip hop artists and often collaborate with Snoop. In 2000, Snoop (as "Michael J. Corleone") directed Snoop Dogg's Doggystyle, a pornographic film produced by Hustler. This film, combining hip-hop with X-rated material, was a huge success and won "Top Selling Release of the Year" at the 2002 AVN Awards. Driven by this success, Snoop directed Snoop Dogg's Hustlaz: Diary of a Pimp in 2002 (this time using the nickname "Snoop Scorsese").
As a rapper, he is perhaps best known for his “lazy drawl” — a slurred, distinctively calm, laid-back, and rhythmically-complex lyrical delivery. His lyrics have often been criticized for their glorification of misogyny, violence and gangsterism; however, he is often credited for accurately portraying street slang and attitudes.

Nothing left for the enemy
When the show goes down
And you silence the melody
(That's when you say)
I'll be that sound boy inna L.A.
Rude boy inna Kingston
Bad boy inna New England
I ain't got the remedy
But when they root for me
You see I'm what they see
I'm living in the sin it's how it's gonna be
I heard the boy is sinnin' and they die for me
Wadadadang wadadadadang
Well you coming on the dance
And now we shaped up our game
Wadadadang wadadadadang
And you know we never ever stop
Beat them to the end
See them on top on them
Willin them, killing them
And then one after
See it
Run to it when nobody asked to be drop off
When we on my bred Snoop Lion
Meets his blessing love and honor
To what we are apart
And to what we are even
You know say it all we all prosper
News flash pick a little ash
Every website and blog
Snoop and Busta in the studio
Hanging out here, get a little bit of snap on
Don't ever get it twisted
See we gifted when together
Reincarnated Snoop Lion, Selassie I forever
I ain't got the remedy
But when they root for me
You see I'm what they see
I'm living in the sin it's how it's gonna be
I heard the boy is sinnin' and they die for me
Somebody help me wake up
And make it rain on my head
Let it rain, let it rain, let it rain on my head
Set it free, so complete, everything has come to ending
Let it breathe
When the background clears
And you're the one standing there
You're running out of time
You're praying that you make a hit
Whatever they do, whatever they do to you
Whatever they say, whatever they say to you too bad
Sound off inna Paris
Roll call inna Lebanon
Bandoleros inna Mexico
Can you hear me, the whole kingdom
I ain't got the remedy
But when they root for me
You see I'm what they see
I'm living in the sin it's how it's gonna be
I heard the boy is sinnin' and they die for me
Somebody help me wake up
And make it rain on my head
Let it rain, let it rain, let it rain on my head
Set it free, so complete, everything has come to ending
Let it breathe
The lyrics in Snoop Lion's song Remedy speak to the idea of embracing one's identity and unique talents even when the odds seem against you. The opening lines reference the end of something, where nothing is left for the enemy, and the show is silenced. Snoop Lion then declares himself a "sound boy inna L.A., rude boy inna Kingston, bad boy inna New England, New York the whole kingdom," asserting his status as a unique presence within different cultural contexts.
He admits that he doesn't have a remedy, but he knows that when people root for him, they see him for what he is. Living in sin is how it's going to be, but he's heard that people are willing to die for him. There's a sense of solidarity and mutual respect conveyed in the lyrics, with Snoop Lion shouting out locations across the globe where people can hear him and connect with his message.
The chorus repeats the plea for someone to wake him up and make it rain on his head, to set him free and let everything come to an ending. It's a call for transformation and rebirth, one that encourages listeners to embrace their unique talents and identities even if it may go against the norms and expectations of society.
