Throwing Snow, aka Ross Tones, first started working with Augustus Ghost, aka Hannah Cartwright, after she first arrived in England in 2008. Hannah comes from a songwriting background, having previously collaborated with Phaeleh as well as singing in the band Masakichi, while Ross possesses more electronic influences - his work as Throwing Snow has gained plaudits from all sides, manifested most recently through invitations to support Bonobo on his forthcoming tour, as well as Thom Yorke’s Atoms for Peace project. Together, the pair shared a mutual influence of the shadowy elements of folk and metal, and it is through these reference points that Snow Ghosts took shape.
They first found an outlet for their music through Black Acre Records in 2011 on the "Lost at Sea EP", and the pair have spent the subsequent two years compiling their debut album through short bursts of writing. Summer 2013 sees the release of the album "A Small Murmuration" on Houndstooth.
Murder Cries
Snow Ghosts Lyrics

To show me where the years have slipped away
It's hollow sounds are fade to gray
So give your fingers one day crave
The fliers bloomed as prices plunged
Your fatal grounds are laying in the mud
We said to death not to wait
No find me why the crows fly
With my fatal ground
Prison I am drawing
Drinking the tears from the bleeding eyes
The murder
The murder
The murder she cries
The murder cry
The murder she cries
We wander through the darkness of the day
To show me where the years have slipped away
It's hollow sounds are fade to gray
So give your fingers one day crave
With my fatal ground
Prison I am drawing
Drinking the tears from the bleeding eyes
The murder
The murder
The murder she cries
The murder cry
The murder she cries
Snow Ghosts' song Murder Cries seems to be a ballad about the pains of life and the undeniable end which is death. The darkness mentioned in the lyrics could be a representation of the struggles and difficulties that come with life. The first stanza talks about how the years slip away, possibly indicating that the singer is aging and not knowing where time has gone. The mention of a fading sound could be a representation of life slowly coming to an end. Then the lyrics talk about craving something, which could be interpreted to mean that the singer wants to make the most out of life.
The second stanza seems to delve deeper into the theme of death. It talks about how prices have plunged, possibly indicating that things in the singer's life are not going well. The mention of fatal grounds could be a symbolism of death, and having it laying in the mud indicates how it's an unwanted occurrence. However, the singer is also aware that death will eventually come. The lyrics seem to suggest that the singer has accepted death and is okay with it coming as it brings an end to the struggles of life. The mention of drinking tears from bleeding eyes seems to be a metaphor for how hard life can be and how one has to endure sorrow and pain.
Overall, the song's lyrics paint a picture of a narrator who has been through a lot and has come to accept that death is inevitable. The lyrics could be interpreted as a reminder to make the most of life and to accept its ups and downs.
