Silvia
Snow Miike Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Following the power lines
Met a man barside
With eclipses for eyes
And you tell yourself you wont let them touch
Did I say too much did I say enough
I don't know Sylvia
Circle round the room still
Breaking my will
Know I can't have you here
Someone else on your skin
And it's all my fault for not getting off
And you made it start, can you make it stop?
You don't know Sylvia
You don't know Sylvia
Damn
Damn
Reach the city steps tonight
Following the power lines
And your skin is so white
Underneath the black night
And your voice calls out for the Coup de grace
When the lights go out will there be a trace?
I don't know Silvia
That I loved, Silvia
That I loved, Silvia
The lyrics of Snow Miike's song Silvia depict a person who is infatuated and consumed by a woman named Silvia. The singer of the song is attempting to resist the physical attraction he feels for Silvia, who he met at a bar. However, he is finding it hard to resist his desires, as they are getting stronger by the minute, and his will is slowly breaking.
The singer is aware that Silvia has someone else on her skin, which is making him feel melancholic and guilty. He is blaming himself for not getting off the chase when he first got the chance. However, his desires have taken over him, and now he wants Silvia badly. The lyrics convey the singer's mixed emotions of wanting Silvia and resisting her, and his mental struggle to deal with his feelings.
In the end, the singer admits that he loves Silvia despite knowing little about her. The lyrics seem to suggest that love is not entirely rational, and one cannot control who they fall in love with.

"And why not death rather than living torment?
To die is to be banish'd from myself;
And Silvia is myself: banish'd from her
Is self from self: a deadly banishment!
What light is light, if Silvia be not seen?
What joy is joy, if Silvia be not by?
Unless it be to think that she is by
And feed upon the shadow of perfection
Except I be by Silvia in the night,
There is no music in the nightingale;
Unless I look on Silvia in the day,
There is no day for me to look upon;
She is my essence, and I leave to be,
If I be not by her fair influence
Foster'd, illumined, cherish'd, kept alive.
I fly not death, to fly his deadly doom:
Tarry I here, I but attend on death:
But, fly I hence, I fly away from life."
- William Shakespeare, The Two Gentlemen of Verona

10 years and this song is still as hauntingly beautiful as it was the first time I heard it. One of the most underrated bands to come out of the late 2000's.

They traveled with festivals. They could keep it together. Imo opinion and I'm a music snob. This is hands down one of the best songs ever produced. The only song I sang karaoke to and this use to stay on repeat while tripping on mushrooms. This song makes me cry every time. This song has the sauce any artist wishes they could produce. They have quite a few songs like this. They single handling changed my genre of music. We didn't get enough from them and it wasn't bc of od's like so many other talented bands.
