Déjà Vu
Soak Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I haven't seen you for months
I've been waiting up on a call
For a stranger's voice to ask if I'm sitting down
No one dare say it but we're thinking the same thing
No one dare say it but we're thinking the same thing

No heaven in front of me
A neon light catastrophe
No unexpected emergency
Nothing's new, déjà vu, déjà vu, déjà vu, déjà vu
There's no heaven in front of me
A neon light catastrophe
No unexpected emergency
Nothing's new, déjà vu, déjà vu, déjà vu, déjà vu

You've been drinking again
Crashed the car and you blamed the rain (Ooh-ooh)
Don't you think that you're better than that?
What a crying shame (Ooh-ooh)
All the neighbours are out in their dressing gowns
And the dogs have gone mad, it's all going down
No one dare say it but we're thinking the same thing

No heaven in front of me, yea
A neon light catastrophe
No unexpected emergency
Nothing's new, déjà vu, déjà vu, déjà vu, déjà vu
There's no heaven in front of me
A neon light catastrophe
No unexpected emergency
Nothing's new, déjà vu, déjà vu, déjà vu, déjà vu

(Oh my God, it was absolutely unlike anything I've ever experienced)
(We wanna get everyone on the same page)
(And then it just started going down from there)

No heaven in front of me
A neon light catastrophe
No unexpected emergency
Nothing's new, déjà vu, déjà vu, déjà vu, déjà vu

No heaven in front of me
A neon light catastrophe

No unexpected emergency
Nothing's new, déjà vu, déjà vu, déjà vu, déjà vu

Overall Meaning

The song "Déjà Vu" by Soak is a melancholic and reflective tune that explores different themes such as nostalgia, repetition, and disappointment. The lyrics paint a picture of two people who have been apart for a while, waiting for a call that finally comes from a stranger's voice. The singer knows what the call is about, but no one dares to say anything. They are all thinking the same thing. This introduces the idea of efficiency and predictability in life, leaving nothing new to discover or experience. The title of the song refers to the feeling of repeating the same patterns and falling into familiar routines as if experiencing a déjà vu effect.

The second verse of the song shifts its focus on the singer's friend who is struggling with alcoholism. The friend crashes a car and blames the rain, but the singer knows it is an excuse. The song suggests that the friend wants to numb the pain or deal with unresolved issues through alcohol, but it's only a temporary solution. The bridge of the song features audio samples of multiple people talking, suggesting the universality of the themes discussed in the song and how people experience the same situations but in different contexts. The song ends with the repetition of the chorus, emphasizing the cyclical and repetitive nature of life that leads to déjà vu.

Probably the best artist to come out of Ireland, north and south in a decade!! Loving this track 🙌🙌

Red Loccy

Liam Jacques ?!! Eden ?

Liam Jacques

While not in the same genre as this artist, I'd recommend giving EDEN/The Eden Project (old alias) a listen to. He is another Irish artist that definitely deserves more attention, just like Soak.

Don't just wait for the summer, go in the part of spring when even in the forests the snow is almost gone, it's a lot greener than in the summer and plants are still coming to life and some are blossoming what just looks nice (imo the air is a lot fresher aswell for some reason in spring, might be the city tho). i am really late to the party but this years spring is still coming so eh.
