Society 1 first rose to notoriety in 1999 with their debut album, "Slacker Jesus", earning massive press coverage through such media outlets as MTV, VH1, Billboard, Details, Rolling Stone, Spin, Revolver, and Kerrang!. Adding to the media frenzy was the fact that Matt Zane was an acclaimed porn director, gaining worldwide infamy for his "Backstage Sluts" series, a series of films which matched porn stars with such real-life rockers as Limp Bizkit's Fred Durst, Korn's Jonathan Davis, and Sugar Ray's Mark McGrath.
Society 1's second album, "Exit Through Fear", was released worldwide in the Spring of 2003 on Earache Records. Society 1's first video, "Nothing", (in which Zane performs the first real "suspension" ever done by a singer in a music video), aired regularly on American Tv station Fuse's Uranium, along with a special episode of Uranium devoted entirely to the making-of the "Nothing" video. By the end of 2003, Society 1 had completed more touring than any other Earache band that year, supporting such acts as Dope, Twiztid, and Pissing Razors on marathon coast-to-coast tours.
In March 2004, Matt "The Lord" Zane took his suspension feat to the next level, making himself the first singer to ever sing live while suspended. Drawing over 700 fans to LA's Key Club, The Lord performed three songs live with Society 1 whilst hanging up to 30 feet above the stage, supported only by six meathooks inserted in his flesh. Orgy frontman Jay Gordon made a special guest appearance on vocals.
The "suspension show" marked Society 1's final U.S. show in support of "Exit Through Fear". In May 2004 Society 1 take their brand of rock n roll debauchery to Europe, in support of Godhead, for their first tour outside of the U.S Following the tour, the band will enter the studio to begin recording their third album (their second for Earache). Meanwhile, Society 1's third video, "Hate", was accepted by MTV2's Headbangers Ball and Fuse's Uranium.
Society 1's current line-up features Matt Zane on vocals, Dirst on bass, Atron on guitar and Berzerk Kirk on drums. They are currently working on their next full length album, Sadist Messiah, scheduled to be released in 2008.
Help Me
Society 1 Lyrics

to himself, never thought a lie
and even though he lived in his head and only
spoke about what he said
The love he had for all was true and he always
had the time for you
Never thought of any harm to say, doesn't
matter if it was night or day
He tried to help a man that fell and then got punched
right in his face
And while he was down the others started to kick him to
They started to kick his head right through
It was black and blue, black and blue
So now he doesn't feel so good
You wouldn't think that he should
From all the beating and the cheating
Lying and back stabbing to
He going to come back some day and start
to kill you, kill you
Help me!
Save me!
Help me because your never going to stop me!
Help me!
Save me!
I don't need your help!
I don't need your help!
I'll do anything oh yes I just won't stop
I'll do anything to put me right on top
I'll do it oh yes oh yes I swear
But what do you care?
Because anything I do you claim to be unfair
So I had to let you go
You cried and you said no...
I need to feel like I got something through
I also need to feel like one of the few that killed you
Killed you
Round and round I'm never going to go down
Hit me, punch me back for another round
Stab me, bite me oh what a great game
Kick me, crush me I'm the same
Save me!
Save me!
Save me!
Save me!
I don't need your help!
I don't need your help
The lyrics of Society 1's song "Help Me" tell the story of a little guy who always spoke the truth, loved everyone, and never thought of saying anything harmful. However, when he tried to help a man who fell, he got punched in the face and then relentlessly kicked by others, leaving him black and blue. The beating and cheating of society led him to lash out by wanting to kill everyone. The chorus features the plea for help to either stop him or save him.
The lyrics could be interpreted as a commentary on the dark side of society, where people who try to do good can often become victims of violence and cruelty. The little guy's transformation from a loving individual to a violent killer could also suggest that the lack of support from others can lead to the deterioration of mental health.
The chorus of the song is powerful and emotionally charged, emphasizing the little guy's cries for help. The repetition of "Save Me!" and "Help Me!" shows the desperation of the situation and the need for intervention.
