SPFU started in the small coastal town of Santa Cruz, California. The purpose of the band was to have something to do while drinking. Good reason to start a band. After a few lineup changes, the band finally settled into the final lineup playing their own brand of ska-influenced punk.
After marginal success of their first 7" soda popium fuckum youm and full length self titled album (which bears the cover of the 7" until the original image is sourced), the band moved to Oakland to be closer to the heart of California. In Oakland the band released a second full length album, Timing is Everything, while concurrently touring as much as they could.
Eventually due to the complications of growing up, the band broke up and went their separate ways. Rumor is they are all waiting for the 4th wave to generate enough attention to do a reunion tour.

Communication Breakdown
Soda Pop Fuck You Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
That I tripped over what I saw was coming
Although I recognized it,
I didn't do anything to keep myself from falling
Do you remember when everything was right?
Smaller versions of ourselves remind us of how it used to be.
They don't speak but they can see and hear everyone's insecurities.
When did we learn it was okay not to care, and our actions don't matter?
Limits to our questions only limit our answers.
Well everything's not right, but its definitely familiar.
I didn't mean to say I'd be the one to change it. But I know what's right for me, and whatever is right for you is fine with me, if you can be someone I can talk to.
Communication breakdown
In "Communication Breakdown," Soda Pop Fuck You is reflecting on a past relationship where communication failed, and this has been a recurring issue in their life. They recognize that they saw the problem coming but did nothing to prevent it from happening. They reminisce about a time when everything was right, which could mean a period when communication was strong in their relationship. The line "smaller versions of ourselves remind us of how it used to be" could be referring to children or pictures/memories of the couple when they were truly happy. Later in the song, the band explores the idea of people not caring about others and how our actions can affect those around us. They suggest that we have become limited in our ability to care and communicate, which leads to a Communication Breakdown.
The song could also be interpreted as a larger societal commentary on the lack of communication between individuals in today's world and how this has become an accepted norm. Soda Pop Fuck You asks for better communication in their personal relationships but seems to understand that this issue extends beyond just themselves.

This is a great song. So was "Oi Song" off the same album. Such an underrated band. I wish they had received wider recognition while they were around

Yes. They were part of a mix CD trade & I did what I could to find their music. I think the CD is a copy but I bought a couple of their 7inches for $1 as well as this comp they're on called "Santa Cruz Still Sucks!"
