SPFU started in the small coastal town of Santa Cruz, California. The purpose of the band was to have something to do while drinking. Good reason to start a band. After a few lineup changes, the band finally settled into the final lineup playing their own brand of ska-influenced punk.
After marginal success of their first 7" soda popium fuckum youm and full length self titled album (which bears the cover of the 7" until the original image is sourced), the band moved to Oakland to be closer to the heart of California. In Oakland the band released a second full length album, Timing is Everything, while concurrently touring as much as they could.
Eventually due to the complications of growing up, the band broke up and went their separate ways. Rumor is they are all waiting for the 4th wave to generate enough attention to do a reunion tour.

Purple Cow Haze
Soda Pop Fuck You Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
She never had a chance
Looking for answers
And finding song and dance
What lies behind a curtain of lies?
A mother who suffers
And a little girl who cries
Don't be confused by her animosity
She still licks the wounds from being too trusting
And don't misinterpret her desire to be free
She doesn't need a false sense of security
Looking ahead
The turning heads
They never catch her eye
She's haunted by the mystery of secrets that she hides
Finding escape in solitary unchained melodies
Haunted by the mystery of secrets that she keeps
On and on but not forever
Poor little girl
Never gave her a chance
She only wants to see
What she can mke with her own hands
Don't try to take her only dream away
With reminders of the failures
And the folly of yesterday
Didn't you think?
She was bound to escape
Didn't you know?
She'd grow too big for your cage
Used to walk underneath you
Now she walks by your side Stop pretending this litle girl has died
The lyrics of "Purple Cow Haze" by Soda Pop Fuck You's talk about the struggles of a little girl who has grown up in a difficult environment. She is seeking answers to the things that trouble her, but all she has found are song and dance. The little girl is haunted by secrets that she hides, and it is clear that her mother is suffering as well. Her animosity is not an indication of a cruel character - rather, it is a result of being too trusting in the past, causing her some deep wounds to lick. All she wants is to be free and not to be trapped within a false sense of security.
Despite the turning heads and the mysteries that she hides, the little girl has managed to find solace in her music; she has found a way to escape the world and its harsh realities through her melodies. But the song speaks of hope, suggesting that this period of her life is not permanent, as she will not be trapped forever. The little girl is determined to succeed, to make something of herself, and not to be reminded of her failures or the mistakes of her past.
The song's message is clear: the little girl will not be provoked, will not be held down, and will not be forced to succumb to the constant pressures that life puts on her. She will continue to grow, and despite everything, she will claim her rightful place in the world.
