Covenant
Soen Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Fear to walk down the aisle
Feel the beat as you lead me on
From the sky to the mire
Shame and pride are the seed of harm
Stand aside from the shadows
Set your sight on the vein of life
Taste the blood of denial
Blow the candle with rotten breath

I am waiting to face the hunter
To feast on my flesh, torn asunder

The sinner will die
Parading down through the misty light
Becomes the night
Upon the sacred and hallowed ground
Away from the sun, in holy halls within walls
Where the light won′t reach down
You give your seed to the frail

Seek advice from the elder
Falling down on your knees repent
Be the crow and the angel
Be my curse to the end of time

Freedom lies in your own desires
Freedom lives in your will
(Freedom lies in your own desires)
(Freedom lives in your will)
Nothing's left as we′re reaching higher
Lust is thicker than sin
(Nothing's left as we're reaching higher)
(Lust is thicker than sin)

The sacred leaves on the trees of hope
Malice poisons the soul
A wicked halo deprived of love
Slithering to the cross

The sinner will die
Parading down through the misty light
Becomes the night
Upon the sacred and hallowed ground
Away from the sun, in holy halls within walls

Where the light won′t reach down
You give your seed to the frail

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Soen's song "Covenant" are quite metaphorical, but can be interpreted as dealing with themes of religion, guilt, temptation, and salvation. The first verse seems to paint a picture of someone being led down the aisle, possibly towards a religious or spiritual ceremony, but with a sense of fear and trepidation. This is followed by a reference to shame and pride, which can be the seeds of harm or destruction. The second verse introduces the idea of a hunter, possibly a metaphor for temptation, waiting to feast on the singer's flesh, which could represent their weaknesses or sins.

The chorus mentions the sinner dying, and points to the contrast between the misty light and the darkness, possibly symbolizing the idea of salvation and redemption being in conflict with temptation and sin. The reference to giving one's seed to the frail could have several interpretations, but could relate to the idea of making sacrifices or giving of oneself to help others, possibly as a way of seeking forgiveness or redemption.

The bridge suggests that freedom lies in one's own desires and willpower, and that lust can be thicker than sin. This could be interpreted as a warning against giving into temptation, or possibly a suggestion that following one's own desires can be a way of finding freedom and happiness. The final lines of the song return to the themes of the chorus, suggesting that salvation or redemption can be found in away from the light, in holy halls within walls, and that one's seed can be given to the frail, possibly suggesting the idea of making sacrifices for others.

Thumbs up to the actor that played the role of the priest. It takes guts to perform such a role...

@theglobetrevor5212

They never show anything explicit, but you really get creepy vibes without having to show it. That is subtle nuance you don't normally get from a music video. The priest kinda makes you want to throw up in your mouth a little right?

@Vakan

It's FASCINATING the way they've managed to deliver such a strong message here without being explicit, just using subtle elements and covering it putting religion as background. There's a double meaning here. After all, Lotus is about seeking, about transformation, but also about resilience. That was powerful.

@duduneitorsepsiboi8467

I apologize for my ignorance, but can someone tell me the double meaning of this song?
