1. Originating from Western Sahara in Algeria, growing up in a multi-cultural environment, Soha blends a variety of styles in her work. Mixing musical traditions from around the world, the prominent Cuban, Latin, jazz and soul influences, Soha gives an appealing vivacity to her sound.
Soha, a French vocalist of Algerian descent, incorporates reggae, Latin, Algerian, and Jazz - she truly is a girl of her time, knowing no boundaries other than the limit of her imagination. The result is a fantastic album that feels so much more than just the sum of these parts. There is no sense of trying items from a shopping list on for size - instead she has incorporated these influences into her soul and her music is a natural expression of this. Like all gifted musicians, Soha has assimilated a diverse range of influences but comes out the other side sounding wholly original.

Mon rêve à moi
Soha Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Je m'allonge à longueur
De journées alanguies
Que les jardins parfument
Et sous la véranda
Tous les jours à cinq heures
Ainsi je languis
Dans un allant de soi
Qui s'étend comme une flamme
Je m'enfonce telle une lame
Dans l'arrière des coupés
Et puis je sors des vagues
À l'âme et sans secousses
Je m'étends, allant
Sur du sable allégé
Mon rêve à moi
Y'a des jours où je le touche du doigt
Mon rêve à moi
Il m'échappe à chaque fois
Mon rêve à moi
Tell'ment habile du bout des doigts
Mon rêve à moi
Il m'échappe à chaque fois
Fermer mon compte à la City
Briser le flot de cette hyper-activity
Ici, ma vie est à moi
Pas de low-fidelity
Et je donn'rai à mon île le nom de Liberty
Ici ma vie est à moi
Sous les ventilateurs
Je m'allonge à longueur
De journées alanguies
Que les jardins parfument
Et sous la véranda
Tous les jours à cinq heures
Ainsi je languis
Dans un allant de soi
Il n'y a pas âme qui vie
Même pas le vendredi
Et je compte les étoiles
Je les vois toutes ici
Mon rêve à moi
Y'a des jours où je le touche du doigt
Mon rêve à moi
Il m'échappe à chaque fois
Mon rêve à moi
Tell'ment habile du bout des doigts
Mon rêve à moi
Il m'échappe à chaque fois
Fermer mon compte à la City
Briser le flot de cette hyper-activity
Ici, ma vie est à moi
Pas de low-fidelity
Et je donn'rai à mon île le nom de Liberty
Ici ma vie est à moi
The first half of Soha's Mon rêve à moi paints a vivid picture of a lazy, sweltering day spent lounging beneath the fans. The singer yearns for the days when she can languish in gardens filled with fragrant flowers and succumb to the heat of the sun that extends like a flame. She seems to take pleasure in being alone, falling into the depths of her thoughts as she gazes at the waves that wash over her, the sand beneath her toes. Yet even with all this beauty around her, she can’t seem to touch her dream, which keeps slipping away from her fingers like sand. In the second half of the song, she contrasts her languid island life with the bustle of the City. Here, where life is more hectic, it’s harder to find the peace she craves. She wants to be free from the grind of daily existence, to break away from the monotonous routine and savor the fullness of life. Ultimately, she rejects the idea of settling for a life that's not truly hers, dreaming instead of a world where she can be free to chart her own destiny.
Overall, the song seems to be about the universal human desire to find meaning and purpose, to chase one's dreams, and live life to the fullest. It speaks to the need to break free from the monotony of daily existence and pursue a life that is truly one's own. The song's lyrics are poetic and evocative, conjuring images of sand, waves, and fragrant flowers, and imbuing the listener with a sense of the beauty and mystery of existence.
