Be one with this
Soham Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

This is all taking place in your presence
Don't bind yourself to anything
Thoughts arise from the ocean of the Self
It is all taking place in the presence of You
Even in full flight of the mind
There is an inner stillness
A deeper seeing going on
Be one with this
Just stay as the witness
Be one with this
Just be the witness

In this seeing all will change
and transform into quietness
In this seeing all will change
and transform into silence

Be one with this
Just stay as the witness
Be one with this
Just be the witness

Thoughts arise calling you to play
Something gravitates, something goes out
Attention is drifting, what watches this?
Even in full flight of the mind
The movement is watched from this inner place
There is an inner stillness
A deeper seeing going on

Be one with this
Just stay as the witness

Be one with this
Just be the witness

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Soham's song "Be one with this" are an invitation to recognize the constant presence of the Self, or the inner essence, in every moment of our lives. The song suggests that instead of getting caught up in our thoughts and emotions, we should simply observe them from a detached perspective. It is through this witnessing consciousness that we can discover an inner stillness and a deeper understanding of ourselves.

The first verse acknowledges that everything is happening within the presence of the Self, and that we should not become attached to any particular thought or experience. The second verse speaks to the transformative power of this witnessing consciousness. When we are able to stay present and observe our thoughts and emotions, they lose their hold on us and we are able to connect to a deeper sense of inner peace and silence.

The chorus gives a clear instruction to "just stay as the witness" and "be one with this." The repetition of this phrase emphasizes the importance of this approach to life, as well as the simplicity of the practice. The final verse speaks to the movement of attention and the constant pull of the mind, but reminds us that even in the midst of this activity, there is an inner stillness and witnessing consciousness that we can connect to.

Namaste
The upanishads which are a part of Vedas declare that there is only One and to realize this Oneness of all life is the ultimate purpose of life.
Every moment we breath, nature reminds us of this truth as each incoming breath resonates to Sah referring to He and outgoing breath to Ham referring to I (The Sanskrit words are split as Sah and Aham and its conjuction is Soham)
Every time we breath , we can tune ourselves to this ultimate reality of Oneness by remembering Soham.
This is called Ajapa Gayatri and is on an average chanted 21600 times in a day
Sah represents Parvati as it is the incoming , introverted energy and Ham represents Shankara , the outgoing , masculine energy.
Thus the masculine and feminine , Shiva and Parvati , together denote completion of life.
The Yoga Chudamani Upanishad mentions that this eternal chant is itself capable of giving salvation upon constant attention and reflection.
Thanks.

Maha Mantra Sadhana

PRACTISE : SOHAM MEDITATION / SOHUM CHANTING
Sit in comfortable pose with spine upright. Best to be in padmasana (lotus pose).
Match the mantra with breathing. Align the inhalation with ‘So’ and exhalation with ‘Ham’. Once you do this you will get to know automatically that mantra goes with the breathing naturally.
