Wakeford founded Sol Invictus in order to pursue his own musical ideas. He was an original member of Crisis and Death In June with Douglas P.. He formed Sol Invictus in 1987, working with Ian Read and Karl Blake. He has been the sole constant of the group, as it continues to bring forth new forms and conceptions.
Wakeford has described Sol Invictus as a "cabaret band from Hell for the fin-de-siècle" and has referred to his work as folk noir. He has said the name "comes from a pre-Christian Rome-based cult. Many of its trappings were taken over by the church. The name means 'the unconquered (or victorious) sun', and it was brought back by the legionnaires returning from Persia. The sun has always been an important symbol and as the cult of Sol Invictus nearly defeated Christianity at one point it seemed a good name to use. I also love the sound of Latin. "
Sol Invictus' imagery and lyrical content, especially initially, was strongly influenced by an antipathy for the modern world and materialism. The band also had considerable interest in Heathen and Mithraist themes, often reflecting an explicit antipathy to Christianity. Wakeford has written from a melancholic position of doomed Romanticism, which laments the loss of beauty, love, and Culture. He sees Americanism as a scourge upon Europe, as expressed with pitch-black humour in his song, "Death of the West" from the album of the same name.
In 2007 Tony Wakeford started working with Israeli producer and musician 'M'. The German label Prophecy will release a new Sol Invictus studio album, 'The Cruelest Month' in 2010.

and the sound of drums
In the days to come - the earth shall seethe
and the clouds will bleed
In the days to come - will we be drowned
in a sea of scum
In the days to come - will man spew out
a bastard son
But from the forest and the field -
here she comes - here she comes
And beneath the turning of the sun's wheel -
here she comes - here she comes
And from a womb of growing corn -
we are reborn - we are reborn
Her moon that lights us till the dawn -
here she comes - here she comes
And in the days that will be, the doors
of hope will have no key
And in the days that will be, no books,
or gods, only greed
And in the days that will show, that the
rule of gold will drag us low
And in great halls where treason breeds,
even noble hearts become diseased
But from the forest and the field -
here she comes - here she comes
And beneath the turning of the sun's wheel -
here she comes - here she comes
And from a womb of growing corn -
we are reborn - we are reborn
Her moon that lights us till the dawn -
here she comes - here she comes
And from the forest and from the field
here she comes - here she comes
And beneath the turning of the sun's wheel -
here she comes - here she comes
And from a womb of growing corn -
we are reborn - we are reborn
Her moon that leads us to the dawn -
here she comes (x10)
The song "In Days to Come" by Sol Invictus is a haunting lamentation about the imminent collapse of civilization and the coming of a new age. The lyrics paint a gruesome picture of the future, with the sound of iron and drums signifying warfare and destruction, while the earth seethes and clouds bleed, indicating an environmental catastrophe. The question is whether humanity will be able to survive this apocalypse, or whether it will be overwhelmed by the forces of darkness and despair.
But amidst this chaos and darkness, there is a glimmer of hope. The song speaks of a mysterious figure who emerges from the forest and the field, bringing with her the promise of rebirth and renewal. She is associated with the turning of the sun's wheel, and the womb of growing corn, suggesting a primal connection to the cycles of nature and the land. Her moonlight guides humanity through the darkest hour, leading them towards the dawn of a new era.
Overall, "In Days to Come" is a powerful meditation on the human condition, grappling with themes of apocalypse, renewal, and transcendence. It is a reminder of the fragility of civilization and the power of nature, and a call to embrace our connection to the land and to each other.

@babylon333 could you recommend any artists of the same genre with similar atmosphere? I'd only say some songs by Deadfly Ensemble like Dirty Weather, even though it's not really the same (and i mean, it shouldn't be the same but i hope you get what i mean ahaha)
