In 2007, Knowles began to record music again. Her second studio album Sol-Angel and the Hadley St. Dreams (2008) deviated from the pop-oriented music of her debut to Motown-inspired sounds from the 60's and 70's. It peaked at number nine on the US Billboard 200 and received positive reviews from critics. She followed this up with the 1980s pop and R&B-inspired EP True (2012) on Terrible Records and her imprint Saint Records. Her third studio album, A Seat at the Table (2016) was released to widespread critical acclaim and became her first number-one album in the United States. The album's lead single, "Cranes in the Sky" won the Grammy for Best R&B Performance. Her fourth studio album, When I Get Home, was released in March 2019 to further critical acclaim.
Knowles was heavily influenced by Motown girl groups and says that her first passion is songwriting. Frequently compared by the media to her sister Beyoncé, Knowles has claimed that they have different aspirations and are musically different. She has been ranked by Billboard as the 100th most successful dance artist of all-time, and in 2017 was honored with the "Impact Award" at Billboard Women in Music. Her other ventures include an endorsement deal with Rimmel London and a line of hip-hop-oriented merchandise for young children.
Some Things Never Seem to Fucking Work
Solange Lyrics

I’ve seen you and you think you love me
I’ve seen you with your hat off
I’m dreaming of a time you knew me
So baby, is it all you’ve got?
Tell me if you got some more-ore
I’m thinking of some time off, off
I’m dreaming of a time that you knew me
Some things never seem to fucking work
Remember when you kissed me (Kissed me)
At Jimmy Jones when I was seventeen
Convinced myself you were the shit (Were the shit)
Convinced myself you love me
So baby, is that all you’ve got? (All you’ve got)
Tell me if you got some more-ore
I’m thinking of some time off, off (Time off)
I’m dreaming of a time that you knew me
So maybe then we’re better off
Well maybe if this is all you wanted it
Leave me alone
Leave me alone
So maybe then we’re better off
Well maybe if this is all you wanted it
Leave me alone
Leave me alone
Remember when you missed me (Missed me)
We’d accidentally meet purposely
Convinced that we were meant to be (Meant to be)
Convinced myself you love me
So baby, is that all you’ve got? (All you’ve got)
Tell me if you got some more-ore
I’m thinking of some time off, off (Time off)
I’m dreaming of a time that you knew me
So maybe then we’re better off
Well maybe if this is all you wanted it
Leave me alone
Leave me alone
So maybe then we’re better off
Well maybe if this is all you wanted it
Leave me alone
Leave me alone
Some things never seem to fucking work
So tell me, is it real love? Some kind of mistake
They made together that we couldn’t anticipate?
And my attraction to you may bother much worse
But it’s either something maybe
A longing and hatred of myself
But one or two end up alone
So the night I saw you, I could pretend I felt you
You’re beautiful and I felt like everybody saw
But the truth is, so much that I hated your endorsement
Try and deny it, I tried to fight it
But I bought you red color with a 99 buff
Looking for the diamond line to us
But eventually become a asshole
To the others, the group from the outside world
So now I’m calling out for a way
To give myself in
Remember when you kissed me, when I was 17
Your skin so soft and you were the shit
But you loved me
So maybe then we’re better off
Well maybe if this is all you wanted it
Leave me alone
Leave me alone
So maybe then we’re better off (Better off)
Well maybe if this is all you wanted it
Leave me alone
Leave me alone
Some things never seem to fucking work
The song "Some Things Never Seem to Fucking Work" by Solange is an emotive piece that speaks about love that simply cannot work out despite efforts. The lyrics are introspective and filled with nostalgia. The artist talks about how she dreams of going back to a time when things were simpler and the love was purer. The line "I’ve seen you with the lights off, I’ve seen you and you think you love me" reveals that the love may have been one-sided and not fully reciprocated. The artist seems to feel that maybe the love was a mistake and the attraction was one-sided.
The chorus, "Some things never seem to fucking work" emphasizes the helplessness and frustration that the artist feels in not being able to make the relationship work. In the following verse, the artist speaks about how she tries to hold onto the memories of the relationship, but they only seem to bring her pain. She acknowledges the beauty of her partner and how she felt like everyone could see how wonderful he was, but later reveals how that endorsement only made things worse.
In conclusion, the song "Some Things Never Seem to Fucking Work" is a powerful song that delves deep into the emotions and complexities of human relationships. It talks about the inevitable way some relationships are doomed to end, even if there were moments of beauty and love that were shared. It's a tribute to the people who have tried and failed in love, and an acknowledgment that sometimes, no matter how much we try, things just never seem to work out.

Looking for the diamond line to us
Searching for the perfect solution for our relationship
But eventually become a asshole
But at the end of the day, I ended up being a jerk
To the others, the group from the outside world
To everyone else outside of our relationship
So now I’m calling out for a way
So now I'm searching for a solution
To give myself in
To fully commit myself to you
