Has brought us here
Minos has taken revenge
We fear to die in exile but I know
There is still a chance for us
To go above the sea, my son,
Don't touch the waves,
Don't near the sun
Hear my words:
Follow the clouds!
But in his days of levity
The boy is not aware at all
Father, save me your words
Come, let us fly
Like birds and Take me higher
On wings we are leaving
On wings we arise
Shore so dire
I'm longing for freedom
The price for it will soon be payed
So the tragic is foretold
The wax will melt
Beneath the burning sun
My invention, is it safe?
Nature can't be replicated!
The claws of wind,
At once they reap
The young man falls into the sea
My fault! It's too late but now I see
The blaze in the sky
Would have posed no threat
If we had chosen the night instead
Take me higher
On wings we are leaving
On wings we arise
Shore so dire
I'm longing for freedom
The price for it will soon be payed
The song "Take me higher" by Solar Fragment is narrated from the point of view of a father who is attempting to save his son, and himself, from a doomed flight that is reminiscent of the Greek myth of Daedalus and Icarus. The song begins by referring to the death of Taurus, and how this event led to their current predicament. Minos (referring to King Minos of Crete from Greek Mythology) has taken revenge and they fear being exiled or even death. Despite everything, the father believes that there is still a chance for them to survive, and he urges his son to follow his instructions to rise above the sea and not get too close to the sun.
The father pleads with his son to listen to his words and follow the clouds. But the boy, who is in his days of levity, seems to be unaware of the danger that surrounds him. He begs his father to save him with words, and then they try to fly away like birds, contemplating their freedom. However, soon the tragedy is foretold: the wax will melt beneath the burning sun, and the boy will fall into the sea. The father laments his invention and wonders if it was safe. In the end, he realizes that if they had chosen the night instead of the day, they would have avoided the blazing sun, and the danger that accompanied it.
Overall, the song is a powerful re-telling of the Greek myth of Daedalus and Icarus that highlights the dangers of hubris and the consequences of not following instructions to the letter.
