1. Sole, born Tim Holland, is an alternative hip hop artist and a co-founder of the anticon. collective. Sole is known for his dense, often dark stream-of-consciousness writing style. His verses are often filled with abstraction, metaphor and sarcasm while avoiding or deconstructing traditional hip hop topics. His albums and record label have been featured in magazines such as Playboy and The Wire. Sole is also a producer and releases his self-produced experiments under the alias mansbestfriend, taken from the name of his Apple G4 computer
Sole was born in 1977 in Portland, Maine. He recorded his first demo in 1992. He shopped the demo to Entertainment Resources International. There was serious interest, and he was flown to Florida to record a few songs. However, the record deal fell through, and soon after, at age 15, sole got together a new group called "45 Below Records", which included Alias, JD Walker and a DJ Cuz the Highlander, now better known as Moodswing9, and together released an album titled "Mad Skillz and Unpaid Billz" under the moniker "Northern Exposure", selling more than 300 copies. At the age of 16, sole pressed up his first 12" and gave it away for free at the 1995 Gavin Convention. In 1996 sole started up a "Webzine" and online radio station, run directly from his basement bedroom in Portland, Maine. His Live Poets 12" from 1997 garnered some press and college radio play, selling a few thousand copies and leading to connections with other like-minded artists like Doseone (Adam Drucker), Jel (Jeffrey Logan), Atmosphere, The Shape Shifters, and the Sebutones (Sixtoo (Vaughn Robert Squire) and Buck 65 (Richard Terfry)). In early 1998, Sole and Pedestrian (James Brandon Best), coined the name Anticon, and together started the collectively owned record label of the same name. In the summer of 1998 Sole, Alias, and Doseone traveled to Minneapolis and together with Slug of Atmosphere recorded the first official Anticon album Deep Puddle Dynamics. Pedestrian and Sole eventually left for California, settling in the Bay Area. Anticon. is currently owned by eight members, Sole, Alias, Pedestrian, Jel, Doseone, Why? (Yoni Wolf), Baillie Parker, and Odd Nosdam (David Madson), well-known for his instrumental albums and his production work on Sole's albums.
Sole is married to Yasamin Holland. Her name and references to her can be heard scattered throughout his lyrics.

Sole'
Bitch Brigade comin
Throw 'em up throw 'em up now
[Chorus]
want to Iy yi yi tonight
See me make a nigga mine mine mine tonight
Make a nigga dump a hoe for this
Roll with this
Get up in it
[Chorus]
The shower when the phone rings lookin for me
Now that figures
Then the door bell, who could it be?
It's my niggas
Want to get up in my closet and floss it
Make a move never used but I'm grabbin and tossin
Comin too, still new, but I'm lookin fo shoes
To rock wit it
Get the tightest jeans, Gucci the theme
Lock wit it
Little panties but I'm ditchin the bra
No back in it
Got the tightest strings know what I mean
No slack in it
Yell for KC, see if she ready
Let's ride
Hear my other girls pull in the drive
Outside
Last brace, see the angel will last
All night
Check the locks, blow this nigga a kiss
>From last night
Get my keys and I'm droppin the top
S K
Blowin in the wind, wavin or not
Parlay
With the range and the six in the rear
It's all woman, we stunnin
Niggas runnin, my Bitch Brigade comin

Sayin nothin and these niggas is sweatin

Know they want the ass, Watchin 'em bettin
On who get it
It's a no go, if you no dough
Fo-get it
Don't like, you can roll the fuck out
Or roll wit it
'Bout 5 of the finest you seen
In yo life
Make you question why the ho that you wit
Is yo wife
At the bar, niggas spillin they drinks
On they slacks
Comin through, we just stoppin they women
In they tracks
Entourage, lookin like we a page
In Playboy
Hear me flow sick, knowin that

Puttin it down, me and Santa forever
Blazed that
Hit the door, and my nigga is waitin

Put it on him like a champ
And ya never forget that
[Chorus] to fade
The song āGet Up in Itā is an empowering statement about women of color owning their sexuality and feeling confident about themselves. In the chorus, Sole sings about wanting to have fun and be the center of attention, making sure that all the guys want her and would leave their significant others just to be with her. The song is about the Bitch Brigade, a group of women that Sole runs with. The Bitch Brigade is a confident and powerful force that makes men sweat and women envious. The song speaks to the idea of women supporting women and building up each other instead of tearing each other down. In the second verse, Sole talks about how she and her group of friends go to the club and take over, making men follow them around and spending money on them. The song is a declaration of independence, power, and fun.
One fascinating fact about Sole is that she was the first female rapper signed to the highly-esteemed rap label Anticon. Anticon. was known for its indie, experimental, and boundary-pushing sound. Another interesting fact about Sole is that her father is a well-known anarchist and activist. Sole has been heavily influenced by her father, and her music reflects his political beliefs. āGet Up in Itā was produced by the legendary underground hip-hop producer DJ Pain 1, who has worked with artists such as Ludacris, Public Enemy, and Young Jeezy. The song was released in 2017 on the album āYoung Soleā by Sole. One of Soleās most famous songs is āBottle of Humans,ā which she released in 2003 critically acclaimed by the likes of Pitchfork and Spin magazines. Sole is also an accomplished author and has written two books, including āDeath Rap,ā which examines the relationship between hip hop and politics.
The chords for āGet Up in Itā are unknown as itās a rap song with no guitar or piano instrumental prominent enough to discern chords.
Overall, āGet Up in Itā is a song about women reclaiming their sexuality and owning their power, with Sole showcasing her fierce lyrical skills and confident personality. The song is a testament to the strength and unity of women who support each other and lift each other up. Sole's music has always offered a unique perspective on underground hip-hop, and āGet Up in Itā is a standout track that showcases her professionalism and talent.
