1. An indie pop … Read Full Bio ↴There are at least two artists that use the name Solex:
1. An indie pop singer from the Netherlands
2. A trance DJ from Romania
1. Dutch keyboard wizard Elisabeth Esselink, aka SOLEX is described in as many variations as her music. She's an indie pop singer / songwriter / sample artist, or is she? Esselink’s haunting vocals combined with a varied array of found sounds (some of ’em found in the second-hand record shop she runs) recall few other experimental/pop crossovers. Solex inventive musical endeavours (with for example the Maarten Altena Ensemble) showcase a vocal presence (and a keen sense of humor) you won’t find elsewhere.
The Solex live show has evolved into a thing of extraordinary dexterity, merging the idiosyncrasies of her albums with the immediacy of a live band. In the past she played The Lowlands Festival, SxSW, Popkomm, CMJ, Noorderslag, Les Printemps de Bourges, Roskilde, toured Japan, Europe, Iceland, South America, the United States, done six Peel Sessions, and met lots of nice people.
Since the "Laughing stock of Indie rock" album she's mainly been playing live with Marit de Loos (on drums).

Ha ha aha
They have all this sunshine but they still buy hardtop cars
Cross your hands on the steering wheel
A little curve in the road
And suddenly you are proceeding east ... another and you head north
A colony of bees swarmed on the saddle of his brand new bike yeah,
Ha ha aha
Ann and Jill, yeah, and he sat down.
The lyrics to Solex's song "Honey" are open to interpretation due to their abstract nature. The song seems to evoke a sense of whimsy and playfulness, with the use of onomatopoeia in the repeated line "Ha ha aha." The opening line describes a surprising and unexpected event, where a colony of bees has swarmed on the saddle of someone's brand new bike. This event seems to exemplify the idea that even in moments of joy or excitement, unexpected challenges can arise.
The following lines seem to criticize societal norms, suggesting that even in areas with abundance, people still choose to purchase expensive cars. The mention of "crossing your hands on the steering wheel" and "a little curve in the road" suggests that the singer is still driving, but the mention of heading in different directions invokes a sense of unpredictability and changing course. The final two lines mention two women, Ann and Jill, who seem to be impressed by the person referenced earlier in the song. Overall, "Honey" seems to be a celebration of unexpected experiences and the unpredictability of life.
