Absolution Extremis
Solstice Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
and darkness oppressing
I lay my heart on a bed of tears
with misery growing
so I paint a picture
so dark, and so black
upon the canvass of a twisted mind
my solitude engulfing
with no one to heal
so alone, so afraid
only pain left to feel
I pray for release
I yearn to be free
I hear the call of the afterlife
my sins so great
and paradise is calling
this paean to woe
from a spirit torn
a requiem of a soul in decline
I await the kiss
from an angel so cold
the savage grace of final release
a penitent soul to be laid to rest
redemption must
absolution in extremis
a cacophony of mourning
with love deceased
The lyrics of "Absolution Extremis" by Solstice express the pain and anguish of the singer who is in the throes of despair. The opening lines describe a sense of impending doom, as if the silence and darkness around them are warning of something terrible to come. The singer is overwhelmed by misery and is consumed by a sense of isolation, as evident from the line "my solitude engulfing." The imagery of painting a picture on a canvass of a twisted mind is particularly potent, suggesting a bleak and tortured psyche.
The singer reflects on their sins, and how they yearn for absolution and release. Death is seen as a way out, as the call of the afterlife becomes too strong to resist. The lyrics suggest that the singer is ready to embrace even an "angel so cold" just to find peace and solace from the agony that they are experiencing. The final lines of the song describe a "cacophony of mourning with love deceased," painting a picture of a somber and sorrowful scene. The song is a lyrical masterpiece that captures the dark and melancholic mood of the singer.
