Break
Son Lux Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Is there no one left to break you down?
Where have all the holy gone?
Is there no one to condemn you?
Where have all the wicked gone?
Is there no one to condemn you?
Where have all the holy gone?
The lyrics of the song Break by Son Lux confronts the idea of morality, good and evil, and the absence or existence of them in the world. The first verse, "Where have all the wicked gone? Is there no one left to break you down?" suggests that wicked people can be useful in holding people accountable and checking their actions. The line "break you down" can be interpreted as forcing someone to become aware of their flaws and pushing them to do better. The second verse reverses the roles that the first verse had established. It asks, "Where have all the holy gone? Is there no one to condemn you?" suggesting the absence of purity and righteousness in the world. The line "to condemn you" is interesting because it reveals how holy people can also be capable of harm and destruction.
Overall, the song seems to be asking where the balance between good and evil lies, and what happens when there is an absence of either. Do we always need evil to exist in order to promote good? Can we achieve a moral and just society without wicked people? These questions are left open-ended, and ultimately up to interpretation.
