Son Lux Lyrics

Trade this heavy cage of bones, for flight
And when the sirens reach out for us
We'll be far away
And when the sirens reach out for us
We'll be far away
Oh what a noise we'll make
This is the chance we take
We shout until our bones break, we can't replace
Are we now what we'll be?
Are we fixed or free?
Are we now what we'll be?
Are we fixed or free?
Let's be anyone but you and me, today
And when the sirens reach out for us
We'll be far away
And when the sirens reach out for us
We'll be far away
Oh what a noise we'll make
Drowning out our mistakes, we can't erase
This is the chance we take
We shout until our bones break, we can't replace
Are we now what we'll be?
Are we fixed or free?
Are we now what we'll be?
Are we fixed or free?
The lyrics of Son Lux’s song “Flight” express a desire to escape from reality and the self. The singer requests to become anyone but themselves, emphasizing the heaviness of their current emotional state. They want to leave their “cage of bones” behind and experience the freedom of flight. When the sirens reach out, they will be far away, suggesting a need to distance themselves from trouble and danger. The repeated refrain “Are we now what we’ll be? Are we fixed or free?” reflects the uncertainty the singer feels about their identity and future.
The chorus of the song emphasizes the noise that they will make when escaping the self, referring to a need to drown out the mistakes they’ve made and cannot erase. This is the chance they take, shouting until their bones break because they can’t replace what has been lost. The verse “Let’s be anyone but you and me, today” again emphasizes a need to escape the reality of who they are currently.
Overall, the lyrics of “Flight” explore themes of identity, escape, and freedom. The singer longs to leave behind their current self and experience the chance to escape into the unknown. The lyrics explore the uncertainty of identity, and the impossibility of erasing past mistakes.
