Tell
Son Lux Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I have nothing to say
I have nothing to say
Tell me anything you want to tell me
I have nothing to say to you
But you have everything to say to me
I have nothing to say
I have nothing to say to you
But you have everything to say to me
You have everything to say to me
The song "Tell" by Son Lux begins with a paradoxical statement, "Tell me anything you want to tell me, I have nothing to say". The lyrics indicate that the singer has turned completely numb and is unable to express his/her emotions. The repetition of "I have nothing to say" builds an air of frustration and dispassion. The subsequent verse, "Tell me anything you want to tell me, but I have nothing to say to you," suggests that the singer has lost interest in the conversation, addressing the fact that sometimes we just shut down and don’t have the drive to engage in a dialogue.
The chorus of the song, "But you have everything to say to me," reveals that the person who the singer is conversing with has something important to say. However, due to the singer's emotional disconnect, the message may not be received in the intended manner. "Tell" is a powerful reminder of the communication barriers that often hinder our ability to connect with each other emotionally. The song highlights how one person's inability to express their feelings can put a strain on any kind of connection.
