I just heard Sonny play this live at Jazzfest. My mouth just dropped open. Then the skies opened outside the Festival tent and the rain just poured down. Sonny just matched the power of the storm. Amazing. He creates his own percussion and sounds like bagpipes at times. What a great musician.

I've probably listened to this song a thousand times, and every time I hear it it still makes my pulse quicken. This one, and Pedal to the Metal as well, which makes my brain dance even if I'm sitting in a chair.

@poitor5915

hey this is poitor from ricks post on guitars “intros”😂i’m having a listen to the song you commented about😏 instrumental right☝🏻pretty bluesy sounds alright.i can hear what you’re saying although it’s not really what i’m saying😩an intro to me is exactly that a part that starts a particular way that’s not heard again during the rest🎸so instead of sweet child o mine that starts the same as the chorus without vocal and the rest adding bit by bit a better example from gnr would be parasite city with that jangly guitar that never goes back to, as i said a introduction another from them would be yesterday’s but the stones are masters at this craft and would have at least 30 if not more including the best ‘gimme shelter’ and brown sugar,all down the line,rocks off and of cause jumpin jack flash🤘🏻’what ever you want’by status quo would be another and kiss have many👍🏻i was really taken back by most of ricks selections citing great starts to classic song really😩rock on brother👌🏼

@@poitor5915 , well, the "intros" Rick cites are actually riffs that function as the main theme to the songs, which return to that theme again at various points throughout. Pretty hard to construct a rock song, or a novel for that matter, with an intro that isn't referred to again in the restbof the story, or the song. For what are songs if not a story in musical form? I'll concede that Brown Sugar has a couple of opening bars that aren't repeated elsewhere in the song; but Jumping Jack Flash sure does reuse the opening riff, as does Can't You Hear Me Knocking, another one that folks complained should have been on Rick's list (and a favorite of mine).....

@poitor5915

@@goodun2974 that’s cause rick’s a tool and jumpin jack flash does have a opening intro in the studio version that i never heard any guitarist replicate🎸

@posteraddict

I've been a guitarist for well over 50 years now. I saw Sonny Landreth play live and, while standing in the front row like a 15-year old kid, I watched how he played behind the slide with his fingers. " I should try that one of these days", I thought (trying to convince myself). Then the COVID lockdown hit. After I memorized the Netflix schedule, I trudged downstairs and started learning this formidable instrumental. After spending 2-3 hours a day for 3 months, I pretty much had it down (though I'll never play with the grace and perfect tone of Mr. Landreth.) It completely changed my approach to slide and I get a huge positive reaction when I play this live. COVID was good for something after all. 'd love to sit down with this genius for an hour and pick his brain (and steal his fingers!) One of my heroes, right up there with Hendrix, Beck, & Mike Bloomfield.
