Psalm 95
Sons Of Korah Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord
Come, let us shout to the Rock of salvation
Come before Him with thanksgiving, yeah
And extol Him with music and song

(Come let us, come let us)
Hey, come let us, come let us
Bow down in worship come let us, come let us
Kneel before God, our Creator
(Come let us, come let us)
Before God, our Creator
For the Lord is a great God
And great King above all gods
In His hands are the depths of the earth
And the mountains belong to Him and
The sea for He made it
And the hands of the Lord
They formed the dry land

(Come let us, come let us)
Hey, come let us, come let us
Bow down in worship come let us, come let us
Kneel before God, our Creator
(Come let us, come let us) for He is our God
(Come let us, come let us)
We are the people, the flock of His pasture
(Come let us, come let us)
The flock under His care

Today, if you hear, if you hear His voice
Do not harden your hearts
As you did in Meribah
As you did that day in the desert

There your fathers tested me
Though they had seen what I had done
For forty years I was angry with them
Angry with that generation
I said, "They have gone astray"
I said, "They have not known My ways"
So I declared in My anger
They will never enter My rest enter My rest

(Come let us, come let us) oooh
(Come let us, come let us)
Let us bow down before Him
(Come let us, come let us)
Let us bow down before the Lord
(Come let us, come let us)
Do not harden your hearts
(Come let us, come let us)
Do not harden your hearts
(Come let us, come let us)

Oooh, let us sing!
(Come let us, come let us)
Sing to the Lord, let us shout!
(Come let us, come let us)
Shout to the Rock, let us kneel!
(Come let us, come let us)

Bow down before Him
For He is your God and your King

Overall Meaning

The opening lines of this song, Psalm 95, invite the listener to express joy and gratitude towards the Lord through singing and shouting. The "Rock of salvation" refers to the Lord as a solid foundation and a source of rescue. The second stanza describes the Lord's power and authority as the great King above all gods, with control over the depths of the earth, the mountains, and the sea. The repeated line "Come let us, come let us" emphasizes the importance of worshipping before God, acknowledging Him as the Creator and caretaker of His people.

The following stanza is a warning, a reminder of the Israelites' disobedience and disbelief during their wandering in the desert following the exodus from Egypt. The line "Today if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts" is a call to listen to the Lord and not to repeat the past mistakes. The stanza highlights the Lord's anger towards His people for straying from His ways and not entering His rest, despite witnessing His power and miracles. The last stanza returns to the invitation to worship the Lord and reminds listeners to not harden their hearts.

PSALM 95
Let Us Sing Songs of Praise
Psalm 95 is a Royal Psalm calling us to come and worship God in spirit and truth. It gives a beautiful illustration as God our Shepherd and we the people of His pasture. This psalm illustrates God leading the Children of Israel into the promise land and includes a memory from the wilderness when the children of Israel tested God by saying, “Is the LORD among us or not?” Today, if you hear is voice do not harden your heart. The writer of Hebrews 3 tells us that Jesus is the fulfillment of our Sabbath rest. I’m no longer working for my salvation; I no longer struggle in my heart. I can enter rest because of the finished work of Christ. That is the fulfillment of our Sabbath rest.

They are awesome, and godly.

@TrentMcEntyre

This song holds together God’s gracious Call to worship and and a confession of how we stray and deserve God’s anger. The end shows why we need God to send a redeemer who can finally lead his people to rest and worship.
