Battlefield
Sonya Isaacs Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

One day as I was thinking
On unseen things above
The Savior spoke unto me
And filled my heart with love

I'm gonna die on the battlefield
I'm gonna die in this war
I'm gonna die on the battlefield
With glory in my soul

I used to have some people
Who walked and talked with me
But since I've been converted
They've turned their backs on me

Some say give me silver
And some give me gold
But I say give me Jesus
Who saved my dying soul

I'm gonna die on the battlefield
I'm gonna die in this war
I'm gonna die on the battlefield

With glory in my soul
With glory in my soul

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Sonia Isaacs' song "The Battlefield" is a reflection on the spiritual journey of a believer who has been enriched by the love of Christ. The song opens by sharing an intimate moment between the singer and Jesus. The singer describes how Jesus spoke to her and filled her heart with love. It is a testament to the personal relationship the singer has with Christ, and how it has transformed her life.

The chorus "I'm gonna die on the battlefield, I'm gonna die in this war, I'm gonna die on the battlefield, with glory in my soul" is a powerful declaration of Christian faith that highlights the idea of spiritual warfare. The "battlefield" and "war" allude to the struggles and challenges that Christians face every day in their journey to be more Christ-like. Furthermore, the phrase "glory in my soul" resonates with the biblical understanding that those who endure hardships for their faith will be glorified in heaven.

The final verse speaks of the rejection the singer has faced since her conversion to Christianity. The song asserts that silver and gold are not valuable. Instead, the singer would rather have Jesus, who saved her soul. This lyric shows the changes in priorities that conversions often bring in a Christian's life. It's a reminder that Christ is far more valuable than earthly treasures, even if that means losing friends or facing persecution.

Overall, "The Battlefield" is a song that celebrates the perseverance of believers in the face of hardship and celebrates the transformative power of Christ's love.
