I was like 13 years old and living with my parents in a village in West
Africa, and every Saturday there was this public place called 'court
barre' or something like that where they would hold music festivals or
any other important occasions or if nothing else, where the young adults
used to go have a dance party and the sound would reverberate all over
the place and I would be in my bed listening to all the songs they
played and they used to play so many of Sonya Spence's songs at the
time..they still hold a special place in my mind.
