Alaska
Sophia Kruithof Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Two years he walked the earth
Following no footsteps
And no idea if that would work
Would it work?

Two years he got no sleep
Sometimes he was the wolf
Sometimes he had to be the sheep
And it wasn't cheap
And mom's praying for him

To make her son come home
But they don't know that he belongs
In Alaska

(Ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh)
In Alaska
(Ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh)
In Alaska

He looked up and cried sometimes
This freedom also hurts sometimes
He was so sure that he would stay
Hiding in the dead and grey

No regrets, no cigarettes
Long nights he spent alone
No ceiling in his home
With the stars alone
And dad's praying for him

To make his son come home
But they don't know that he belongs
In Alaska

(Ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh)
In Alaska
(Ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh)
In Alaska
(Alaska, Alaska, Alaska)
In Alaska
(Alaska, Alaska, Alaska)

In Alaska

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Sophia Kruithof's song "Alaska" depict a solitary journey of a man who has decided to follow his own path and venture into the wild unknown. He has been walking the earth for two years, without any direction or guidance to follow. At times, he embodies the characteristics of a wolf, while other times, he has to be submissive like a sheep. This journey has not come cheap, and his mother is worried sick about him, praying for his safe return. However, the man feels that his destiny lies in Alaska, where he can find peace and quiet in the vast expanse of nature.

Despite the challenge, he has no regrets about his decision to wander into the wilderness - it's just him and the stars, with no ceiling or walls to confine him. At times, the freedom that he has found also hurts him, as he feels the weight of isolation and loneliness. He knows that his father is also praying for his son's safe return, but the man is convinced that his true calling is in the wild, in Alaska.

Overall, "Alaska" is a reflection of the human desire to find oneself, to break free from societal expectations, and discover inner peace in a world full of chaos and noise.

Sophia, when I see all your performances I get that fame is not what you want, music is probably what you love more than anything. You fall in the same category as passenger, Matt corby. You'll never be an adele as you don't aspire to be. But for music lovers like us, every word you sing, burns a hole in our hearts, leaves us speechless and very very moved. I am happy I saw this song and hope you put out many more. God bless u!

As I settle into another Alaska winter, I keep coming back to this song. Beautiful!
