Is It Cold In The Water?
Sophie Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'm freezing
I'm burning
I've left my home
Soft ache, me
Out shaking
I feel numb now

Is it cold
In the water
Is it cold
In the water
Is it cold
In the water
Is it cold
In the water

I'm falling
Depths endless
Worlds turn to smoke
One hundred years flicker
I kiss the snow

Is it cold
In the water
Is it cold
In the water
Is it cold
In the water

Is it cold
In the water

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Sophie's song Is It Cold In The Water? depict a sense of confusion and disorientation. The first two lines, "I'm freezing, I'm burning," create a sense of duality, suggesting that the singer is feeling both hot and cold at the same time. The second line, "I've left my home," reinforces this displacement, conveying a sense of being disconnected from one's familiar surroundings.

The repetition of the line "Is it cold in the water?" throughout the song creates a chorus-like effect, and invites the listener to question the singer's situation as well. This line could be interpreted as a metaphor for being in a state of uncertainty or unease. The line "Depths endless, worlds turn to smoke," paints a vivid image of being lost in an infinite abyss. And yet, the singer finds solace in the final line: "I kiss the snow." Despite the confusion and disorientation, there is a sense of acceptance and even beauty in the midst of chaos.

Overall, the lyrics to Is It Cold In The Water? convey a poignant mixture of discomfort and serenity, confusion and acceptance, leaving room for listeners to draw their own conclusions about the meaning behind the words.

When you’re unexpectedly confronted with the news of aggressive terminal cancer after fighting suicidal ideation since the 2nd grade at the unripe age of 22, it’s a miracle to be here a year and a half later. However, the subconscious obsession with mortality and meaning and the sense of impending doom has driven me to the depths, and this song has been haunting me the entire time. I carry on each day wondering if it will be my last, is it cold in the water?

i guess it may not help anything in your situation, it's plainly not fair that you're dealing with this, but somehow the beauty of life is its fleeting state of existing, because everybody dies. death it's a total equalizer not just for living beings but to every material and fabric that reality consists of. there's a song here in spain that says 'no flower has ever lived two springs'. we came into existence without wanting to and we didn't exist before that for billions of years, so we were dead before, and we will be dead after our time is gone, everything that lives didn't decided to start being. in nature the earth it's what brings life to flowers and is also the death that absorbs the remains of what was once alive to renew the cycle again, the real gift we were given is to make the most while we're still here, however i hope you'd be able to get better and enjoy life as much as you can❤
