A douze ans, elle fait l'acquisition d'une guitare, désireuse de pouvoir s'accompagner. D'emblée naissent une série de petites chansons tristes, des chansons d'enfant, pourtant. A l’adolescence, confrontée à l’exigence parentale de faire des études dites ‘normales’, Sophie, toujours désireuse de faire de la musique, s’immisce dans divers groupes ‘rock’ locaux, avant de créer son premier groupe ‘Standard’.
Son entrée dans l'âge adulte fut jalonnée par une série d’évènements difficiles, dont le décès accidentel de son père, donnant lieu à une longue période de tristesse et de remise en question, reportant d’année en année la mise en lumière de ses propres chansons. En 1992, après des études en Arts graphiques, elle passe un an à Londres, où elle perfectionne son anglais. De cette période contemplative naîtra une série de morceaux dont quelques uns seront repris bien plus tard sur son premier album Cyclus. De ballades pop en chansons intimistes, cet album acoustique riche en sonorités seventies (rhodes, wurlitzer ) lui donne l’occasion d’exprimer subtilement ses talents puisqu’elles signe 4 morceaux et en co-crit 5 sur les 13 qui composent cette première aventure avec Benjamin Schoos (Miam monster Miam) à la production artistique. Au rendez-vous, une presse belge enthousiaste et un vrai succès d’estime dans le cadre d’une première autoproduction.
Ayant entre-temps prêté sa voix sur les albums de Miam Monster Miam (Hey Tank! Forgotten Ladies, Soleil Noir et L’Homme Libellule), de Jacques Duvall (Hantises, Le Cow-boys et la Call-girl, Expert en désespoir), de Juan d’Oultremont (Bambi is dead) et de Guillaume Ledent (La récréation), Sophie s’improvise régulièrement multi instrumentiste, par simple plaisir, une fois au pipeau, l’autre à la guitare et la suivante chevauchant une batterie en combinaison léopard dans le groupe punk-garage Ufo goes Ufa ... ( Pop Symphony Garage II) elle semble toujours prête à frôler les limites de l’improbable pour trouver son bonheur ! Et son bonheur, elle le trouve dans un enchevètrement de formules déjantées et de compositions sages, sobres et douces. Elle se réserve sans concession l’espace entre deux chaises, inconfortable certes, mais pleinement occupé d’une part par son côté fragile et ses chansons mélancoliques et d’autre part par sa force organique et son enthousiasme spontané.
2011, Sophie a fini de tisser Stella Polaris, une nouvelle collection de chansons frèles et majestueuses, suspendues dans le temps. Un folk à la fois lunaire et proche de la terre ferme, avec toujours en équilibre cette voix sensible qui oscille entre les cîmes et les racines, en français. Accompagnée en studio par Raphael Laforgia (guitares), Pierre Greco (contrebasse), Jérôme Dantinnes (batterie et claviers), Pascal Schyns (basse électrique), Georges Herman (piano), Benjamin Schoos (guitare électrique et synths), Philippe Laurent (trompette), elle enregistre 11 chansons en une semaine au Studio 5 à Liège avec Raphaël Wynands et peaufine à la maison. Ce nouvel album est mixé en France au studio Farside par l'illustre Gilles Martin et sortira en septembre sur le label belge indépendant Freaksville Record.
Côté scène, Sophie est à la fois retenue et spontanée, ce qui lui confère un charme particulier et une présence qui ne demandent pas de grands gestes pour laisser un bon souvenir. Entourée de comparses talentueux (Raphaël Laforgia, Pierre Greco et Jérôme Dantinnes),elle les a choisis aussi pour leurs affinités et leur capital sympathie. Les concerts sont intenses, passant par des émotions diverses puissantes, abordant un tas de sujets aussi 'simples' que l'amour, la vie et la mort, ... avec une poésie qui donne à ses débats intérieurs un envol majestueux.
