Listeners familiar with the Dutch music tradition will instantly recognise her style: Sophie gives a modern take on the so-called 'levenslied' or 'smartlap' of typical Amsterdam 'volkszangers' like André Hazes. There is also Dutch eighties and indie pop in the mix. Many Sophie Straat songs are in fact protest songs (of sorts) against gentrification, mansplaining, et cetera.

Her début EP, ’t Is niet mijn schuld, was released in 2020. Following a string of singles, her début full-length, Smartlap is niet dood, is set for a March 2023 release.
