Jekyll and Hyde
Souleye Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

And while I am flying high
You fly beside
Just when I start to drop my guard, then
Here you come with the Jekyll and Hyde
I get used to your light, then the jarring blindside
Step off with the Jekyll and Hyde
When I drop my guard, you bring out the dark side
I am done with your Jekyll and Hyde
Jekyll and Hyde
I thought you should a friend
Your hot and cold, I'd share my soul
But you're not listening
So I'm not stressing it
No pressure on my mind at all
Just curious about your split personality
Allegory double life
One moment's really nice
Next moment, exploding on me like it was dynamite
With no responsibility to be accountable
I guess I'm gone free away now from your hold
When you're kind, your kind is transcendent
Harmony rules the land
But sure as night turns to day, it is always uncertain
Just when I'm lulled by your sweet side
The harder the fall when you flip the script each time
Here you come with the Jekyll and Hyde
I get used to your light, then the jarring blindside
Step off with the Jekyll and Hyde
When I drop my guard, you bring out the dark side
Here you come with the Jekyll and Hyde
I get used to your light, then the jarring blindside
Step off with the Jekyll and Hyde
When I drop my guard, you bring out the dark side

I am done with your Jekyll and Hyde
I am done with your Jekyll and Hyde

Overall Meaning

In Souleye's song Jekyll and Hyde, the lyrics describe a relationship where he is constantly caught off guard by the unpredictable behavior of the other person. He describes feeling comfortable when everything seems to be going well, but then suddenly being hit with a "jarring blindside" when the other person's darker side comes out. The title of the song refers to the classic novel by Robert Louis Stevenson where the main character has a split personality, and Souleye uses this metaphor to describe the unpredictable behavior of the person he is dealing with.

Despite feeling that he has been deceived and hurt by this person, Souleye also seems to be curious about their "split personality" and how they are able to switch so suddenly between kindness and cruelty. He mentions feeling a sense of relief when he is able to break free from their hold and no longer feel the pressure of their constantly shifting moods.

Overall, the lyrics of Jekyll and Hyde seem to be about the difficulties of dealing with someone who is unpredictable and has a tendency to hurt those around them. Despite the pain and confusion that this person causes, Souleye also seems to be reflecting on the complexity of human behavior and the ways in which people can wear different masks depending on the circumstances.
