Waiting for VVVVVV
Souleye Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Why are you waiting
For your greatness
You can have it right now
It's right there waiting for you
It's was only one night
Yet it felt like a whole life
Scars left to help remind us of the change
Scuba dive with the sharks
Couple hammer heads
Realize the fear then release it
You can see the after glow
Pack your clothes it's time to go
On till the lights out
Anybody ever been ready
To be living in a world where
The veils are pulled away
Can I get another minute?
I really want to listen
And get to know what you have to say
It's so clear and it's calm
Right before it is gone
Why are you waiting
For your greatness
You can have it right now
It's right there waiting for you
Consider it done
I am the son
Of a numb American
Can you really get it?
If you wanna karma drama
I'm a be the man that I want to be
Not born be
Do you hear the difference
I'm stronger than I've ever been
No longer a loner
Now that I know ya
I'm older taken flight up
Right past cloud nine
Stairway to the gate way
What a night that that was
Blast off remove the ceiling
You get the notion
Soaking in no smoking mirrors
I've got you coming
And going
And in we go

Moving on up in to that
World that we all know as light

Overall Meaning

In "Waiting for VVVVVV," Souleye explores the theme of seizing the present moment and embracing one's own greatness. The song starts with a question, asking why the listener is waiting for their greatness when it is already within their reach. It emphasizes the idea that greatness is not something to be achieved in the future, but rather something that can be experienced and embraced in the present moment.

The lyrics then delve into the concept of transformation and growth, represented by the metaphor of scars left behind to remind us of the changes we've gone through. Souleye expresses the need to confront and overcome fear, symbolized by the act of diving with sharks and letting go of inhibitions. The afterglow mentioned refers to the clarity and calmness that follow facing one's fears and moving forward.

The song also touches on the idea of living in an authentic and transparent world, where the veils are pulled away. Souleye expresses his desire to listen and understand others, seeking deeper connections and meaningful conversations. He asserts his strength and growth, claiming to be stronger than ever and no longer a loner.

Overall, "Waiting for VVVVVV" is a motivational anthem urging listeners to embrace their own greatness, live in the present, confront fears, and forge authentic connections with others.

If I could be somebody else,
I would be Terry Cavanagh!
Making the games like Don't Look and VVVVVV
and everyone play them in awe.

The awesomeness of graphics isn't really it.
No, the gameplay and story is what makes it fit.
And everyone is playing in the evil, evil rooms.
But no-one ever sadface or glooms.

Or do dey?

(grit teeth) Yeah, Terry is a monster. I think we all know that.
The levels that he did makes you wanna call him twat!
And making Things the Hard Way, I really don't like that!
The joke's on me, it's silly, I'm feeling like a prat.

Anyway, the thing is fun, I think you all agree,
that if you're waiting for something good, you are waiting for VVVVVV!

Possibly. But there is a gauntlet called 'Doing Things the Hard Way' (named after the room you start in; also called 'Veni, Vidi, Vici', named for the sequence of rooms involved afterwards), which is infamous for being, well, hard.
This way sounds like it would make more sense, at least to me. I think I hear a "s" sound before "the hard way".

But I mean, that's just what I deduced. I'm not bothered enough to look up actual lyrics to a joke song.

I always thought it was "and makes me think the hard way, I really don't like that!"
I could be wrong, though.

When it's the

I kinda miss this game, yes, i can buy it easily in steam, but i miss the times VVVVVV was kinda popular, it never was as much as minecraft or fortnite, but i think it really deserves some more love, it's a very cute (and hard) game, that conquered my heart with the retro style, the simple story and the awesome soundtrack.
I hope you have a good day, i don't know who you are, but let's not forget this game!

Sir KDuck

I played VVVVVV a couple of months ago and I don't think it was really that hard, but maybe thats because i play alot of 2d platformers

Quote from the readme that comes with the soundtrack:

"The bonus song "Waiting for VVVVVV" (loosely based on Stephen Lynch's "super hero") is a joke between me, Deceased Crab, and Terry Cavanagh. It's not featured in the game in any way (doesn't even start with P, to indicate this), but I thought it'd be fun to include anyway. It's me singing with my guitalele into a cheap noisy microphone, and is totally unprocessed except for normalization. I don't claim to be a great singer or a good gitaleleist, but if the song puts a smile on your face then my goal was accomplished! :)"
