Take Me Back Home
Soulsavers Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

The first time you gave me freedom
For the first time I felt free
As long as you were right with me here
There’s nothing else that I would need

You take me back there
Take me back home, please
No, I can’t go in there
Just take me back home, home
Is where I wanna be

I was a fool before I met you
Only fools find it hard to believe
You just might be my only savior
If you are, then come and save me
If that’s true, come back and save me

You take me back there
Take me back home, please
No, I can’t go in there
Just take me back home, home
Is where I wanna be

Where all my stumbling misses
And all your wonderful kisses
That’s where I want to be
That’s just me

You take me back there
Take me back home, please
No, I can’t go in there

Just take me back home, home
Is where I wanna be

Overall Meaning

The opening lines of Take Me Back Home describe the feeling of finding true freedom in a relationship. The singer implies that they were once trapped in some way, but their partner liberated them. They've never felt this type of freedom before and can barely imagine a life without it. The imagery created by "As long as you were right with me here" suggests that their freedom is tied to being with their lover. Without them, they may very well feel trapped again. The chorus of Take Me Back Home seems to be a plea for their lover to bring them back to where they feel most at home. Somewhere they can be themselves and feel safe.

The second verse of the song hints at the singer's past. They describe themselves as a fool and express that it was hard to believe anything before meeting their partner. This is clearly a reference to the liberation discussed in the first verse. The singer seems to be saying that their perspective on life has been completely altered by their lover's influence. They then state that their lover might be their only savior, which seems to be a poignant metaphor for finding salvation through their love. The final lines of the verse are a plea for their lover to come back and save them if they are indeed their savior. The bridge paints a picture of the ideal home the singer would like to return to: a place where their blunders are forgiven and their lover's kisses are cherished.

It's a very touching song and video. Cause that's what I want done with my ashes. If someone can leave me by the water. Somewhere quiet and peaceful, and there place my ashes. DM & SS forever.
