Sound & Vision Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Ooh ooh
Doo doo doo doo doo doo
Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo
Don't you wonder sometimes
'Bout sound and vision
That's the color of my room where I will live
(Mmm mmm mmm mmm)
Blue, blue
Pale blinds, drawn all day
Nothing to do, nothing to say
(Mmm mmm mmm mmm)
Blue, blue
I will sit right down
Waiting for the gift of sound and vision
And I will sing and [inaudible]
Waiting for the gift of sound and vision
Drifting into my solitude, over my head
Don't you wonder sometimes
'Bout sound and vision
The lyrics of Sound & Vision's song 'David Bowie' come across as abstract and ambiguous, but on closer examination, the song seems to express boredom, loneliness, and the desire for escapism. The opening lines, "Don't you wonder sometimes/ 'Bout sound and vision," depict a feeling of emptiness and soul-searching, expressed through an unspecified 'you'. The lyrics express a yearning to escape from the dullness of reality and seek something magical and inspiring, evoking a strong sensibility of imagination.
The second verse, "Blue, blue electric blue/That's the color of my room where I will live," depicts the singer's world as a monochromatic and stagnant one. The use of the word "electric" alludes to the possibility of finding some evocative escape through music, something to bring color to the monochromatic mundanity of life. The phrase "waiting for the gift of sound and vision" is explored further in the repetition of the final lines of the song, describing the experience of this music as "drifting into my solitude, over my head." The song seems to be meditative and introspective and serves as both a lamentation and a plea for a more romantic and imaginative experience of life.

this was the first song I played when I heard he died. it's not his most popular song, not even sure if it's my favorite, but there is something about it... it speaks the full range of human emotion, from depression and misery to joy and beauty... and beyond that, I think it shows how those feelings can all coexist at the same time in one person... life is hard and complicated but also incredibly beautiful
