Its funny becuase the tension was literally from mechanical errors. They had quite a few mechanical sharks made, I can't remember exactly how many but it cost a A LOT money.
See there had been a lot more scenes with Jaws but when Spielberg and the rest of the team looked back on footage they found the sharks to be to rigged and mechanical in their movements and it just felt so un natural that they ended up cuting 90 percent of the footage they had with the shark. Which in the end created one of the most tense movies ever.

The musical score of Jaws is so incredible, and it plays such a big part in the movie. The music starts slow, and it increases in intensity as you can suspect that the shark is nearby or approaching. The eerie music mixed with the camerawork is tension and suspense at its finest. Jaws is as one of the very few movies where the music alone can scare the audience, and no other movie really does that quite as well!

I remember when it came out in the cinema in the mid 1970s when on holiday in Blackpool and after watching it , you could see hardly anybody wanted to go into the sea , considering this was off the coast of England , it still was nerve wrecking thinking of going into the water after watching it. I remember when I was a kid. I bought a cd at Walmart that had a bunch of movie themes on it. This is the exact version of the Jaws theme that was on the cd. It used to creep the hell out of me! I even remember putting it on in the living room while me and my friends would play Jaws. Two would sit on the couch and that would be the boat while one rolled around in the floor being the shark. I listen to this music every time i look at anything that has a White pointer on it, even when i play around with a model of Jaws if i had one and even when i day dream about i White pointer going around eating human's up.
I had a nightmare once about a White pointer charging at me from under the water while i was laying down on my chest, just chillin on my surf bored and once i saw the White charging at me the Jaws music just automaticely started playing, i woke up just once it got me, thank god it was only a dream, i'm too young to die.
