As Long As You Are Glorified
Sovereign Grace Music Lyrics

Shall I take from Your hand Your blessings
Yet not welcome any pain
Shall I thank You for days of sunshine
Yet grumble in days of rain
Shall I love You in times of plenty
Then leave You in days of drought
Shall I trust when I reap a harvest
But when winter winds blow, then doubt

Oh let Your will be done in me
In Your love I will abide
Oh I long for nothing else as long
As You are glorified

Are You good only when I prosper
And true only when I'm filled
Are You King only when I'm carefree
And God only when I'm well
You are good when I'm poor and needy
You are true when I'm parched and dry
You still reign in the deepest valley
You're still God in the darkest night

So quiet my restless heart
Quiet my restless heart
Quiet my restless heart in you

Oh let Your will be done in me
In Your love I will abide

Oh I long for nothing else as long
As You are glorified

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "As Long As You Are Glorified" by Sovereign Grace Music represent a deep confession of faith in God. The lyrics start by questioning whether one should accept blessings from God but reject pain or only love God in times of plenty and reject him in days of drought. The hymn reinforces that one has to accept both blessings and hardships from God and that it will be only His will in them. The singer then confirms their commitment to abide in God's love, independent of the conditions that come their way. The chorus emphasizes that the only desire is for God to be glorified, regardless of the circumstances.

The second stanza challenges one's perception of God, questioning if one recognizes the goodness and truth irrespective of the situation. It also reminds the singer that God reigns supreme amid deep valleys and darkest nights. The song expresses the paradoxical nature of faith, where one's faith in God is not just dependent on blessings but also trials.

Overall, the song presents a call for surrender and a reminder that God is still in control, even in the most challenging of circumstances. As long as He is glorified, trials and blessings make no difference, and His will prevails.

I like this song mostly for its second verse. We focus too much on God's promises, in a self-centered way: what can God do for me? But we should know his character. He is always good. He is always God. He always loves. Nothing changes these facts. Get to know God's character, and his promises and blessings become so much richer.
