April 9, 1964) (also known as DJ Alice) is a Japanese composer and musician, most recognised for her video game soundtracks during the 1980s and 1990s. She is credited with composing the scores to numerous classic Nintendo titles, such as Super Mario Kart, Sim City, Pilotwings, Super Mario All-stars, Vs. Excitebike, Yuu Yuu Ki and 3D Hot Rally, amongst others. Other projects since then include writing the soundtrack for the Playstation port of Battle Bugs, composing the ending theme "Shinkirou" for the anime Desert Punk, and releasing an original music single titled "Second Brain".

Super Mario Kart is such a classic, and hearing Soyo Oka's perspective and memories making the soundtrack was awesome. While it obviously has shown its age a bit, it's still a blast to see how it all started. I grew up playing this one with friends and family, and always loved it, but 100% agree about the touchy steering controls lol. Excellent episode as always! Also, that skit...lmao!

Thank you for tuning in last night buddy. Soyo was great to give me her time even though we didn't speak the same language. I think that shows how passionate she was for the project to still take time to write her answers out so I can use them. One of my main issues is that I hate that the obstacles like the ice blocks for example are on the ground and hard to see. Man, I sucked at this! LOL I still can't stop laughing that your wife walked in on the skit and you had to explain to her what you were watching!!!

Growing up I always played as Mario, but Yoshi is my choice now.
Also that "Do you believe in magic" McDonalds ad really brought back some memories. When I hear the real song I still think of the "big red shoes" line.

Toad is the MVP, in my book. When I was a kid, I borrowed this game from my friend, and then smashed all of his time trial records with Toad (just so he knew it was me).

Aaaaannnd then, he proceeded to just reset the cartridge just to delete all my records. I didn’t even know you could do that.

Great video. I really enjoyed the retro adverts in between. You did a great job in covering everything really well. It's hard to remember but I think my go to in this game were Luighi and Yoshi. The game was amazing back in the day but it's kind of hard to get into now as the turns are definitely rough.

For a moment I thought Zee was doing the voice over for the Interview haha.

The battle mode is so much fun and an excellent inclusion into the game to break up the racing. I'm not the best when it comes to racing, but I can smoke my wife in the battle mode! Thanks for watching and leaving a comment.

Super Mario Kart is my favorite in the entire series. I used to play it a lot with my dad back in the early 90s. I would always be Koopa Trooper and still do to this day. We could never beat beat 150cc.

Luckily it's not super overpriced and it's somewhat common to find in shops still. It's a lot of fun, especially battle mode for the people that suck at racing (like myself) thanks for watching buddy!

I adored MK when it hit the SNES. I think the sequels made a good thing great, but I'll always have a soft spot for my days racing as Koopa Troopa, especially in the Bowser's Castle tracks.
I don't think the original holds up as well as others, but I think series fans owe it to themselves to see where it all began.
Another stellar show TC! Sorry I left you hanging at Rainbow Road... I warned you I was a heartbreaker...

You made a perfect statement "The sequels made a good thing, great!" that's how I feel too. Love to hear your nostalgia for this game come through. It's a little rough around the edges now especially with the obstacles being on the track and not in 3D. LOL when people ask you if you've ever met me, I do hope you share with them the first time we met and how you introduced yourself to my wife.

I never really liked the SNES game but Wii & N64 were fantastic. My wife got me the one that came out on Switch but I'm afraid to even open it. I'll never sleep again lol

I just watched your interview with Soyo Oka. Very nice! I wanted to ask if you know if she composed that early Vanilla Lake music (the one in the undumped proto).
If not, would it be possible to ask her? I would like to get to the bottom of this, since this music is nowhere in the Gigaleak.

Hi there, I'm not entirely sure if she composed the early vanilla lake music or not. It was very difficult to get ahold of, in fact she responded about three months after I had reached out! Best of luck in finding out that information. Perhaps her new website that she is building will be able to expand on her history.

@TigerChainsaw I'm not sure either, as it doesn't really sound like hers, however she most likely did the earliest Vanilla Lake music as well as the early title screen music, and undeniably did the early Award Ceremony music. What do you think?

Such a great game. It's fun but the rubber banding ruins it on higher speeds. Very fun tho. Worth playing under 150 cc.
