On October 24, 1995, Spacehog released their debut album Resident Alien, which spawned the singles "In the Meantime" and "Cruel to be Kind". The band's second album, The Chinese Album, was released on March 10, 1998. Though it did not sell as well as Resident Alien, the band's popularity was increasing as Spacehog opened for popular acts like Pearl Jam and Supergrass. The Chinese Album featured a more "artsy" sound, with Pink Floyd-like piano on the opening track and Michael Stipe of R.E.M contributing vocals to the song "Almond Kisses".
In 2001, Spacehog released their final album, The Hogessy.
In 2002, Spacehog quietly broke up and the band members went their separate ways, but reformed in 2008.

Spacehog Lyrics

Looking at the stars.
I'm waiting for the countdown to begin
I'm not sure where I'm going
No I've no way of knowing
[Chorus]
But when the signal comes
Baby I'm a Spacehog
a Spacehog a Spacehog a Spacehog
Well now I see the moon
We got here oh so soon
The earth looks very different from up here
I'm picking up strange signals
I hope I'll be okay
[Chorus]
The lyrics to Spacehog's "Spacehog" depict the excitement and uncertainty of space exploration. The singer is standing on a launch pad, gazing up at the stars and eagerly anticipating the countdown to his journey into the unknown. He admits to having no idea where he's going or what he will encounter, but he proceeds with enthusiasm nonetheless.
As the song progresses, the singer reaches the moon in a flash and views the earth from space, which appears completely altered from his new perspective. He encounters strange signals and voices his hope for his own safety.
Overall, the lyrics communicate the thrill of adventure and the sense of venturing into the unknown that comes with exploring space. The repetition of the phrase "a Spacehog" in the chorus serves to reinforce the idea of the singer's identity being one with space exploration, as though he is a creature of space himself.

And in the end, we shall achieve in time
The thing they called divine
When all the stars will smile for me
When all is well and well is all for all
And forever after
Well, maybe in the meantime, wait and see
We love the all, the all of you
Where lands are green and skies are blue
When all in all, we're just like you
We love the all of you
And when I cry for me, I cry for you
With tears of holy joy
For all the days, you've still to come
And did I ever say I'd never play
Or fly toward the sun
Maybe in the meantime something's gone
We love the all, the all of you
Where lands are green and skies are blue
When all in all, we're just like you
We love the all of you
That sounds fine, so I'll see ya sometime
Give my love to the future of the humankind
Okay, okay, it's not okay
While it's on my mind, there's a girl who fits the crime
For a future love dream that I'm still to find
But in the meantime
We love the all, the all of you
Where lands are green and skies are blue
When all in all, we're just like you
We love the all of you
We love the all, the all of you
Where lands are green and skies are blue
When all in all, we're just like you
We love the all of you, yeah
