PRIDE
Spades And Blades Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'd like to break down and say that I'm lonely

But something prevents me

That something can only be

When you know you're giving way
Heavy is the weight, endless is the wait

Hopeless!

And you want somewhere to run

Need somewhere to hide

If you never cried

Whisper!

I'd like to break down and say that I'm lonely

But something prevents me

That something can only be

So when bitterness comes 'round

No one is exempt

Try and look your best

A vain attempt!

After all is said and done

Someone else's name

Coming from her lips

Screaming!

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Spades and Blades' song Pride speak to the universal human experience of feeling lonely and wanting to express that loneliness to someone else, but being unable to do so for some reason. The singer of the song wishes to "break down" and admit their loneliness, but "something" stops them. This could be interpreted in a number of ways - perhaps the singer fears vulnerability or rejection, or perhaps they feel societal pressure to always appear strong and tough. The repetition of this desire to "break down" and admit one's loneliness creates a sense of longing and tension throughout the song.

The lyrics then move on to discuss the weight and hopelessness of this feeling. The weight is "heavy" and the wait is "endless," compounding the difficulty of the experience. The singer then wishes for somewhere to run and hide - again, an expression of vulnerability and a desire to protect oneself from emotional pain. The line "if you never cried, whisper" is particularly poignant, highlighting the societal pressure to always appear stoic and unemotional.

The song's final verse adds another layer - the mention of someone else's name coming from "her" lips. This suggests a romantic relationship, and adds feelings of jealousy or betrayal to the mix. The singer is clearly feeling overwhelmed by their emotions, but unable to express them in a way that feels authentic to themselves.

Great review. I don’t own one yet but want to purchase. I have a 2 mile long dirt road, gravel, holes and rocks embedded and wonder if such an implement is strong enough to handle. I am concerned what happens if the scraper hits a fairly big rock.

if you set it to 1/4", you can use toplink adjustment (angle of the box) to find the needed depth.

Appalachian DIY

how much range do you think you can get by doing that? Good idea too

Mitchell Conant

@Appalachian DIY Honestly I am not sure. Probably an inch, maybe 2? It's always worked for me when I needed more precision - I have the same box blade and a similar-sized tractor.

Appalachian DIY

@Mitchell Conant Nice, Thanks for the Tip I'll definitely try that out

I'm sold on your review on the BB1260. My tractor is a bit larger 38hp kubota. Just have to be careful with it and see.

Its a beast. I thought a couple times i was going to chip the blade after some hard hits from large stuck stones but it did great

My 84” cost $1900

The cost of steel has went up significantly ( along with everything else) not so sure it would be worth trying to build your own unless you have a low cost source for steel. Then trying to bend or roll the proper angles would take major equipment to do it correctly.
