In 2007, Haden released a solo album, but also reformed the band with new members Tom Gladders (guitar), Randy Kirk (keyboards, guitar), and Matt Mahal (drums). To commemorate Spain's first shows in over six years, the band performed The Blue Moods Of Spain live in its entirety at the 2007 Tanned Tin festival in Castellón, Spain. This was followed by several shows in the U.S. A new studio album, produced by Soulsavers' Rich Machin, is scheduled for release in 2009.
Josh Haden's triplet sisters were in the 90's violin power pop outfit That Dog.
Nobody Has to Know
Spain Lyrics

Girl we've fallen so in love
It was just a year ago
And you've kept it to yourself
Nobody has to know
Nobody has to know
Girl our love has grown so strong
Close the shades unplug the phone
How can our love be so wrong
Nobody has to know
Nobody has to know
Nobody has to know
Girl we've fallen so in love
It was just a year ago
And you've kept it to yourself
Nobody has to know
Nobody has to know
The lyrics of Spain's song "Nobody Has to Know" convey a forbidden, secret love affair between two people who share a deep emotional connection. The opening line sets the tone for the entire song: "Nobody has to know." This phrase is repeated twice in each verse, emphasizing the importance of secrecy in their relationship. The singer speaks from the perspective of one of the lovers, conveying the fear of judgment and the longing to be with the other person, regardless of societal norms.
The second verse intensifies this feeling, as the singer notes how their love has grown so strong, and the need to isolate themselves from others in order to celebrate it. This "close the shades unplug the phone" line emphasizes the need for privacy and secrecy, but also the intensity of their emotions for each other. Despite the potential judgment from others, they can't help but love each other deeply. The chorus emphasizes the need for secrecy, again repeating the phrase "Nobody has to know" to drive the point home.
Overall, "Nobody Has to Know" is a song about the complications and joys of forbidden love. The lyrics capture the fear, excitement, and emotional vulnerability inherent in a secret relationship. The repetition of the phrase "Nobody has to know" drives home the importance of keeping their love to themselves, while also conveying a sense of desperation and longing for something that is ultimately unattainable.

My mom died the year this song came out. It was her favorite song at the time, I purposely learned this on the guitar for her. I miss her very much and this song brings back nothing but fond memories of my beautiful mother. I love and miss you. Thank you, Spain.

CMJ New Music News magazine with free cds brought me here (10-15 years ago?) And this song STILL haunts me today. At a campfire by myself, I will play this on guitar once my friends come back to join me on this most fortuitous night. :)
